When you sign your son up for mental health support, he’s not just healing... he’s learning life skills too.

Fahim Muhammad, Mental Health Specialist on the school-based team brought an etiquette class to Simeon, showing that growth happens in and out of the therapy room.

What happens to a man that spends half his life in the streets?

He’s likely to end up in prison, become a drug dealer or die.

This was the path of Keshan Ramsey, but he decided he wanted more out of life. Now, he’s a Therapeutic Mentor helping troubled young men who look like him, create better outcomes.

Despite his rough beginnings, Keshan went to college at 36 years old, earned 3 degrees and turned his story into purpose. Now that's a flex.🔥

Sometimes our young men don’t need another lecture… they need proof that somebody who came from where they came from still made it out.

How different would our communities look if more Black young men had mentors they could actually relate to? 💭

Access to mental health isn’t enough. For many young men, there are real barriers preventing them from feeling seen, understood, and supported.

These include:

1. Stigma: 75% of Black men experience mental health challenges but often go untreated due to stigma

2. Lack of representation: Only 5% of the psychological workforce identifies as Black and of that, 17% identified as male according to the American Psychological Association (1 in 100 workers are Black men).

3. Limited access to the right type of care: 56 - 74% of Black men with trauma have unmet mental health needs, and only 26% can access services.

We create safe, culturally grounded spaces where young people can heal, grow, and be themselves.

If there’s a young man in your life who could benefit from support, we’re here to help. Let’s connect today at https://zurl.co/HphzM.

When we come together to support our youth, we will see REAL change.🤝🏾

We recently partnered with the Annie E. Casey Foundation as part of the Applied Leadership Network (ALN) to discuss better outcomes for our justice impacted/involved youth.

We discussed prevention, community support and creating safe spaces for youth (and their families) to be successful at home, in school and in their communities. We also discussed the importance of equity and culturally responsive support.

We're grateful to not only be part of these conversation, but also to be in the room creating solutions that strengthen our communities and get our young boys and men to the support they need.

Sometimes it's hard to say "I'm not ok" or to say what you need. Emotional safety isn't something to young men, and expressing themselves could feel impossible.

Remember- you don't need all the answers. A calm conversation, a patient response, or simply making space for them to talk can make a bigger difference than we realize. Boys need emotional safety too.
