Ollin Youth Group

Ollin Youth Group Mindful Practice and Violence Prevention. We create and facilitate events that create a path of Peace and Mindfulness in the world of Youth Violence.

We do this through a series of sessions we call "Peace Talks", Mindfulness Training, Service Action for Peace Events, and The Little Village Youth Forum. We also host and lead The Little Village NonViolence Leadership Institute.

Today we are going back to the first week of the Ollin Summer Leadership Institute, Mentors Week👥

Before our summer program officially kicked off, we met with all of the mentors for the summer to plan out the summer. During this time mentors got the opportunity to do some team-builders, pick a theme for the summer, and plan out each week of the summer. Their goal for the summer was for mentees to make new connections, engage within their community, go outside their comfort zone, and build on their leadership skills. 

They ended their week with a field trip to Whirly Ball in which they got the opportunity to do some team bonding, build memories, and enjoy activities like bowling and many rounds of Whirly Ball. 🎳☀️🏎

It’s Throwback Thursday!

This week, we are looking back to our end of year field trip to Main Event!!🎳☀️ 
 
On June 8th, our youth wrapped up the school year and  kicked off the summer with an exciting field trip to Main Event! Throughout the day, students bonded, built memories, and enjoyed bowling, laser tag, arcade games, pool, and food together!

We are incredibly grateful for the amazing group of young people who made this year so special through their great energy, growth, and commitment throughout the year. We can’t wait to see what this upcoming year has in store! ✨

Meet our Health Ambassadors! 🪏🌻 This summer, TCEP had two youth groups: the Ollin Summer Leadership Institute and our Health Ambassadors.

This group of eight students worked together throughout the summer to create a safe and healthy space for the community through the beautification of our garden. Throughout the six-week program, they focused on a variety of projects, including beautifying the garden, producing healthy food, and assisting with the organization of our Back-to-School Bash. Students also had the opportunity to learn a variety of skills, ranging from community engagement to urban farming techniques.

Week 1: The focus was identity, getting to know ourselves as well as the community we would be serving this summer. (Students participated in self-exploration activities and went on a community walk to visit local gardens.) 🪴

Week 2: Students explored different types of plants as well as urban farming techniques, making connections to their own cultural identities and exploring how green spaces can bring people together. (Students learned more about the knowledge and benefits that green spaces can offer and explored exhibits at Garfield Park Conservatory to gather ideas for TCEP’s garden.)

✨Ollin Summer Leadership Institute 2026 ✨

Ollin Youth Summer Leadership Institute has come to an end, last Friday we partnered with Telpo for our end of Summer Showcase. We got to celebrate everything that our students and Telpo students have been doing during the summer programs✨

Throughout the showcase students had the opportunity to show family and friends some of their favorite activities from the summer through an interactive gallery walk. They highlighted some of their favorite things from each week of the summer. Family and friends got the opportunity to participate in team challenges like Mind Field, and keychain and bracelet making. In Mind Field students learned how to work together and how to communicate with others, especially when working to achieve the same goal🤝 

Our youth led a gallery walk that allowed parents to see what they did each week. Students showed some of their favorite activities, like their cyanotypes, abstract self-portraits, birdhouse, community garden signs, along with some pictures. 📷 

Attendees also got the opportunity to look at all of the beautiful work our Health Ambassadors have been doing this summer in the garden “ Nuestras Raices, Nuestras Fuerzas”  Stay tuned as there is more to come from the garden !!🪴

We ended the showcase with students receiving book bags with school supplies to be ready to start the school year strong!! 🎒

It’s Throwback Thursday! Join us every Thursday as we look back at some of the amazing events we hosted or participated in throughout the year!!✨

This week, we’re kicking off the series by revisiting Telpo Art Fest/ Kermés ! 🎨🎉

On May 29th, we partnered with Telpo for their annual Art Fest and hosted a community resource fair. With over 250 attendees, it was a day full of creativity, connection, and community!

Our adult leaders served delicious enchiladas, hot dogs, aguas frescas, along with other tasty food and drinks. Ollin Youth led art stations where attendees created keychains, bracelets, and other fun crafts. They also helped distribute food donations by handing out bags to those in attendance.

Thank you to everyone who joined us and to all of the organizations that helped make this event such a success.

Rain or shine, nothing was going to stop us from kicking off our summer programming! 🌻

Last Friday, we hosted our annual Asada en el Jardín event. Despite the rainy weather, we had more than 120 community members come out to support the beautification of our garden.

Together, we welcomed the summer by caring for our jardín, “Raíces de Esperanza”. Attendees planted sunflowers with personalized name tags, helped prepare our garden beds for the growing season, and shared their ideas for what they’d like to see in the garden this summer.

Community members enjoyed raffles, created crafts with our Ollin Youth, and, of course, enjoyed some delicious tacos! 🌮

Thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make the event such a success. Stay tuned for more community programming in our garden 🪴!!

Calling all youth in 6th–11th grade! Join us for a fun filled summer at the Ollin Youth Leadership Institute for 5 weeks from June 22 through July 23.

We’ll be offering engaging programming, exciting field trips, leadership development opportunities, and the chance to make new friends along the way!

🎓 Graduation season continues, and we’re excited to celebrate our graduating interns! 🎉

We want to take a moment to recognize and celebrate our incredible interns for their hard work, dedication, and contributions to TCEP throughout their time. This year we had a total of 7 interns join us in congratulating all 7 of them as they reach this important milestone in earning their Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees.

We are so proud of all they have accomplished, both academically and within our TCEP community. We can’t wait to see all the amazing things you’ll accomplish in this next chapter of your journey! ✨

🎓 Congratulations to the Class of 2026!🎉

This past Thursday, we had the joy of celebrating our Ollin youth as they prepare to begin exciting new chapters in their lives. We celebrated 8 students who are transitioning from 8th grade to high school, as well as high school seniors who will be heading off to college this fall.

We are so proud of all they have accomplished and can’t wait to see what the future holds for each of them! ✨
