Asian American Law Enforcement Association It is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. This helps us to create a connection of respect and optimism as a whole.

The Asian American Law Enforcement Association (AALEA) was established in 1983 and has over 700 members, including active and retired law enforcement officers and community members. Since being chartered in 1983, the purpose of the Asian American Law Enforcement Association (AALEA) is to strive to ensure that all our members are supported and empowered by building mutual trust. We recognize that t

he respect we owe to vote communities is not conditioned, and we recognize that respect as a value must permeate every law enforcement action we undertake. As a registered 501c(3) non-profit organization, we support and build mutual trust and relationships with one another, as citizens and as law enforcement. Currently, with more than 500+ members, we are the largest Asian American Law Enforcement Association in the Midwest, and the second largest chapter in the National Asian Peace Officers Association (NAPOA). Most of our members are from the Chicago Police Department, Cook County Sheriff’s Department, Illinois State Police, U.S. Postal Inspection Service, and various other law enforcement agencies at the federal, state and local levels. Members must be at least one quarter (1/4) of Asian descent and a member in good standing of a recognized law enforcement agency. Associate memberships are available to others who wish to support our organization, but are not members of a law enforcement agency or are not of Asian descent. Asian Americans in law enforcement agencies are an “invisible minority”, where too often, we are unappreciated and unrecognized. AALEA hopes to truly unites our members and communities as a big family. Please join us in congratulating AALEA Secretary, Deputy Chief Melissa Sacluti, on being selected to receive the prestigious Harry Lee Leadership Award from the National Asian Peace Officers Association.

This well-deserved honor recognizes Melissa’s outstanding leadership, dedication, professionalism, and commitment to excellence in the law enforcement profession. Her service and passion for helping others continue to make a meaningful impact and inspire those around her.

As President of AALEA, I am personally very proud of Melissa and grateful for her leadership, friendship, and continued dedication to our organization.

Melissa will be presented with the Harry Lee Leadership Award during the 2026 NAPOA Leadership Training Symposium and Exposition in Los Angeles.

A special thank-you to Kerry “Kato” Murakami, AALEA’s Chairperson of Defensive Tactics Training, for leading today’s Vertical Grappling Seminar for our members.

We sincerely appreciate Kato for sharing his knowledge, experience, and practical defensive-tactics techniques. His commitment to officer safety, professional development, and realistic training made the seminar both valuable and enjoyable.

Thank you also to New Breed Training Center for hosting us and to all the AALEA members who participated and supported this special training opportunity.

It has been a true honor to have known you not only as our Superintendent, but also as one of our former instructors. We will always be grateful for the knowledge, guidance, and encouragement you gave us as your students, as well as the leadership and dedication you have shown throughout your career.

Today, we pause to remember and honor Officer Malcolm Woo, one of the founding members of the Asian American Law Enforcement Association (AALEA), who passed away two years ago on July 8, 2024.

Malcolm was a pioneer, a leader, and a trailblazer who helped open doors for generations of Asian American law enforcement officers. As one of AALEA’s founding members, he helped lay the foundation for the organization we know and love today.

Although two years have passed, Malcolm’s legacy lives on in AALEA, in the officers he inspired, and in the path he helped create for future generations to come.

Rest in peace, Malcolm. You are remembered, honored, and never forgotten. We will always love❤️ you.
