Did you know that June 4th, was International Day of Innocent Children Victims of Aggression?

The International Day of Innocent Children Victims of Aggression is observed annually on June 4th. This day serves as a reminder of the immense impact of armed conflicts on children worldwide. Here are some key points about this important day:

Background:
The United Nations established this day in response to the alarming number of innocent children affected by acts of aggression, particularly during conflicts.
The General Assembly decided to commemorate June 4th each year to raise awareness and advocate for the protection of children caught in the crosshairs of war1.
Children Under Attack:
Children living in conflict zones face unspeakable horrors daily. They are not safe even in their homes, schools, or hospitals.
Alarming data from the UN Secretary-General’s Annual Report on Children and Armed Conflict (2022) highlights:
Over 8,630 children were killed or maimed, a 5% increase compared to the previous year.
Explosive ordnance caused over 25% of child casualties.
7,622 children were recruited or used in armed conflicts (85% were boys).
3,985 children were abducted, with high numbers in specific regions.
1,166 children were victims of sexual violence (99% of cases affected girls).
Denial of humanitarian access affected 3,931 incidents.
Attacks on schools and hospitals increased sharply (1,846 verified incidents) due to military use2.
Ending Violations:
Ending and preventing grave violations against children is crucial.
Eliminating factors that lead to children’s involvement in armed conflict is essential for their protection.

June 4th was Cancer Survivor Day. According to the Journal of Clinical Oncology, "Homeless patients have high rates of cancer risk factors, later stage diagnoses, and increased rates of cancer …" Unity Parenting and Counseling, Inc. truly cares about the health of those persons served at our shelter.

Did you know that April 24-30 is MS (multiple awareness) Awareness Week. It is an opportunity to raise the awareness about an illness that affects many people.
MS is often an “invisible” disease. So many common symptoms can be truly life-altering to those living with them, but not always apparent to the outside world. We’ve created this page of basic MS information for patients and families living with MS, to help them share the facts about MS with loved ones, friends, co-workers, neighbors, and anyone else who may not have a great understanding of what it means to live with MS.

This month is National Child Abuse Prevention Month. Oftentimes, children and teens have left home and are homeless due to some measure of child abuse. No measure of child abuse is acceptable and Unity Parenting and Counseling, Inc. stands with homeless teens and disadvantaged families (including children) to ensure that they have a safe space to sleep overnight.
