Last year, building on the success of Letters to Santa, we launched Chicago Reads and matched Chicago-area students with Book Buddies — awesome volunteers like you who purchased new books for their buddies. Kids went home for the summer with their very own books to read!

Now, we face an unprecedented situation. Kids are home — learning to attend remote classes and complete assignments virtually. It makes Chicago Reads a bit more complicated — but it also makes it more critical than ever.

So here's the plan: When you sign up as a Chicago Reads Book Buddy, we’ll match you with one of our partner schools. You’ll purchase a new book for a student via your favorite online retailer (or one of our suggested local retailers) and have it shipped directly to the school. Amazing teachers, administrators and volunteers at the school will distribute the books to students through their existing meal delivery programs.

You can sign up to be a Book Buddy now at https://charitytrust.suntimes.com/chicago-reads-program

Looking for a way to support the awesome students in Chicago? Sign up to become a Book Buddy! When you register, we’ll match you with a child, tell you a bit more about what she loves to read and connect you to her school. You’ll purchase new books that will be her very own—so that she can keep reading all summer long!

Sign up now and give Chicagoland students their very own books for the summer.
