Four mayors representing towns big and small, suburban and rural, wrote an op-ed supporting Governor Pritzker's BUILD Plan. They describe how our housing shortage is hurting families everywhere, and how local governments can’t solve this statewide crisis alone.

"Nothing about this is radical. What is radical is continuing to do nothing while working families cannot find housing or afford to put down roots in the communities they want to live in. The state has a plan. Let’s let them get to work." 🏘️

An entire generation of young people is beginning to see homeownership as a dream that’s out of reach.

“It’s going to take a lot more than a village to fix our housing crisis.”

Great write-up by AHIL member Richard Day in A City That Works on why individual cities can’t solve a regional crisis, and how the Illinois Municipal League is actively working to block the kinds of reforms we need to address it.

Local control has meant years of inaction while costs rise and housing falls further out of reach.

It’s time for the Illinois Legislature to pass the BUILD plan. 🏘️

Jared Fritz, a Champaign resident and lead with CUrbanism Club, published an op-ed in support of Governor Pritzker’s BUILD plan!

He makes the case clearly. Illinois’ housing shortage is a statewide problem, and most cities are not doing enough to allow more homes, even as 82% of residents want the Legislature to take action on housing costs.

The BUILD plan meets the moment by making it easier to build more housing across Illinois and ensuring no community is left behind. 🏘️

Champaign's latest Housing Needs Analysis calls for 7,000 new units by 2035 to meet growing demand, roughly two new homes every day between now and then, Jared Fritz writes.
