After more than two years of working with Ald Timmy Knudsen's office to honor Richard Hunt, Eve Moran and Michelle Duster (great-granddaughter of Ida B. Wells) GOT IT DONE!!!! The signs for RICHARD HUNT PLACE were installed on Sept 11, and the dedication ceremony took place on the anniversary of Richard Hunt's Sept. 12th birthday. He passed in December 2023, and would have been 89 years old this year.

The signs are on Lill Avenue for two blocks (from Sheffield to Racine). Several dozen people attended the ceremony, which was followed by a simple reception at the studio where Richard worked for over 50 years (at 1017 W. Lill).

He contributed not only an astounding amount of artwork (more commissioned outdoor sculptures than anyone in history), but also an incredible amount of kindness and grace to the world. All who knew him were touched by his generous spirit. We all extremely fortunate that he created the Ida B. Wells Monument, and are blessed for knowing him.

Info sheet on Ida B. Wells National Monument created by the late Richard Hunt (September 12, 1935 - December 16, 2023). After sticking with our committee for over 11 years, we're so glad he was able to complete and install the work as well as enjoy the attention afterwards. The legacies of Ida B Wells and Richard Hunt are forever connected.

Richard Hunt, the sculptor of the Ida B. Wells Monument, passed away today December 16, 2023 at the age of 88. He patiently worked with the committee from 2010 until the installation of the monument in 2021 to make sure that Wells was honored. He was there the entire day to see his work be put in place. Now, it's his turn to be honored.

This extensive book on world-renowned sculptor Richard Hunt was
launched in October. He is the artist who created the Ida B. Wells National Monument and images are on pages 319 & 351 as well as the back cover of the jacket.

Our committee worked for 13 years to make sure that Ida B Wells would be memorialized with a monument by Richard Hunt! Light of Truth was made possible by over 4300 ppl who supported this project! Thank you.

The monument stands out in these conversations, as a direct counterbalance to the Columbuses and confederates that are under scrutiny.
