A message from Harry Klodowski, Chair of the Sections & Chapters Council
------Attending and Supporting ACE 2015------
It is about seven weeks until the 108th Annual Conference and Exhibition (ACE) in Raleigh on June 22-25, and the early registration discount ends on May 20. The Association asks all Section and Chapter leaders to help us get more members to attend, sponsor or exhibit at ACE (or other A&WMA programs).
Many of our members have never attended ACE, so they do not know about the 360 technical papers and 60 expert panels during the three day event, or of the networking and fun events. Consider an email to your members to encourage participation in ACE. Reach out to your local leadership teams, and ask them to ask Members who have attended ACE to personally contact four people who have not attended, describe this one of a kind event, and ask them to attend. For me, the major benefits are “one stop” shopping on regulatory developments in every environmental field, the opportunity to get a year’s worth of continuing education credits in a couple days, and the chance to reconnect with experts and friends from all across North America.
Others attend for different reasons, but all agree it is a one of a kind event. Everyone who has gone to ACE has his/her own story of how it has helped him/her. Please personally contact someone and ask them to attend ACE this year. Do it in the next week or two! Sections & Chapters can promote ACE in local websites, newsletters and at your meetings. I also ask the Sections and Chapters to tell us how you support attendance at ACE, so other units can consider how to help. Many support local students to attend ACE generally or the ECI program for college students, through scholarships or other support. Some Sections & Chapters sponsor ACE, or the Environmental Challenge, or specific ACE events every year. I am sure there are many ideas out there on how to get the word out about the premier annual event in the field of environmental protection. For example, have you considered holding a raffle to provide a $500 prize to a member who attends ACE for the first time? Or to a member who has not attended ACE in two years?
The Sections and Chapters still have time to encourage environmental professionals to attend ACE 2015, and the Associate needs your support right now! Please post your ideas or comments under this discussion. I appreciate your input.
