The origins of Women's History Month date back to 1978 in Santa Rosa, California, when the Education Task Force of Sonoma Country Commission on the Status of Women planned a “Women's History Week” celebration during the week of March 8 to correspond with International Women's Day!

Twin sisters have a vision: a world where every woman, regardless of her financial situation, can defend herself. They initiated "WRiSE" (Women's Resilience and Self-Defense Empowerment) under the umbrella of Our Globe Foundation to make this vision a reality.

They noticed their friends couldn't join their Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) class due to financial constraints. The costs of equipment, uniforms, gym membership fees, and lack of transportation became insurmountable barriers. This realization sparked a desire in the twins to extend support not only to their friends but also to underprivileged women and girls in the community.

In the U.S., many women and children, including migrants, homeless, and jobless individuals, are vulnerable. The alarming rate of sexual assaults against these women calls for urgent action. WRiSE aims to provide these women and children with care, support, and most importantly, the means to learn self-defense.
