Andrea For Animals Chicago area Companion Animal Rescue Support and Fund-Raising... since 2005

CLOSED Fall 2014 There are a lot more plans in the works!

AndreaForAnimals.com started out as just a fund-raising vehicle (via a shopping portal) and has evolved into much more. I have done a lot of rescuing on my own and as a part of a few rescues; I try to attend events, volunteer and donate as much as I can. This year, however, I am applying for a 501(c)3 and have stepped up my "game" with fund-raising for animal rescue. The first major project (Feb 2

013) is a documentary film, "Chicago To The Rescue," which is also on Facebook: http://facebook.com/chicagototherescue
Second, I have a soap line, "Hope Soap", which I have been wanting to do since 2008 - after saving a partially frozen kitten off the street in December 2007 named Hope. 100% of the proceeds are used for pet rescue.

Pet care people in Chicago:

As you know, I don't do pet care any more.

However, someone contacted me today in need of pet care/house sitting for a Pekingese in Chicago. I'm getting more info. Stay tuned. Maybe one of you can help?

It is with extreme sadness that I type this post. Last night we lost our sweet mama, Hallie. After giving birth to 7 puppies via emergency c-section at the ER yesterday, she seemed to be doing well. We lost one puppy almost immediately, but were just so happy that she made it and most of the puppies did too. That is when Hallie went into cardiac arrest. We always request that CPR be performed on our animals when they are in the ER and something like this happens. The veterinarians immediately started trying to save her life, but Hallie did not come back. We lost our little hippo last night and are at a loss.

We were not the only ones to lose her. 6 little puppies also lost their mama last night and we owe it to Hallie to do everything we can to make sure they all survive. After Hallie passed, we went to visit with her and say our goodbyes. We promised her that her puppies would be well taken care of and we know she fought to stay alive until those puppies were safe. An amazing mom until the end.

With Hallie having 6 surviving puppies and also having 6 letters in her name, we have decided to name each puppy with a letter from her name so she can remain part of them forever. We will be sharing photos and video of the little hippos later today.

Thank you to everyone who has supported us through this process. Whether you donated to Hallie's care, offered to volunteer your time, sent a nice note, or just kept Hallie in your thoughts, it does not go unnoticed. So thank you.

To Katie ~ You may not feel this way, but you did save her. Without you she would have died with all her puppies outside in the cold alone. You gave her life by taking her in and she will live on through her puppies. Love you lady!

WAYS YOU CAN HELP:

1) Hallie's bill is approximately $3,000 and we will need a lot more to care for the puppies who are currently still in the ER. If you are able to donate to the H.A.L.L.I.E. fund we would be forever grateful. Donations can be made to the fund at https://www.youcaring.com/halliefund.

2) Right now we are coming up with a plan for the 6 remaining puppies who will need to be cared for around the clock over the coming weeks. If you are an experienced bottle feeder, or know of someone who is, please email us at [email protected].

3) If you have or know of someone that has a puppy warming incubator, please email us at [email protected].

4) We need supplies! The puppies are going to need a TON of formula and supplies. Please visit our registry to donate the following items: Petco Gift Cards (to buy puppy formula as needed), puppy pads, Merrick Canned PUPPY Food, Fromm dry PUPPY food. Start shopping here:

Miss you so much little hippo.

We can do this. I know we can.

This is so powerful, true, raw and honest. We had to share...

"A friend of mine just posted this on my wall. It literally got me out of the bed to go to my computer to share with all of you. This is the best way to explain what we do everyday, what we see and what we feel while doing it.

For animal lovers like me, animal rescue is the most incredible, rewarding job... in the history of ever.

At the same time... it's also the most heartbreaking...
The truth is...
You see a lot of things... you never thought you'd see.
You witness a level of cruelty... you didn't think was possible.
You feel a degree of helplessness... you never thought you'd know.

You stare at painful images... soon burned into your memory... that will haunt your thoughts forever.
You try to pick up the pieces... so many pieces... of the damage you didn't do.
You do everything in your power... but even still... you'll never reach them all.

You'll try to stay strong... but you'll mostly feel weak.
You'll build walls to protect your heart... but they'll never keep you safe.
You'll place barriers around your soul... but the pain will always reach you.

And no matter how hard you try to fight it... over time... here's the truth about what happens in animal rescue...
The neglect changes you.
The abuse hardens you.
The suffering breaks you.

The ignorance angers you.
The indifference disturbs you.
The injustice destroys you.

On a daily basis... your faith will be tested.
Your heart will be wounded.
Your soul will be altered.

On a weekly basis... you'll question yourself.
You'll question your strength.
You'll question the world.
On a monthly basis... you'll fall down.
You'll get up.
You'll go on...

On a yearly basis... you'll look back...
You'll see faces...
You couldn't save them.

You'll learn to mourn.
To grieve.
To sob.

You'll learn to trust a little less.
To do a little more.
To fight a little harder.

You'll learn to try.
To hope.
To pray.

You'll learn to fail.
To succeed.
To accept.

You'll learn when to hold on.
When to give up.
When to let go.

You'll learn who you are.
What you stand for.
Why that matters.

Then... at times... you'll forget why you matter.
You'll question what you're doing.
You'll wonder if it's worth it.

But... here's the good news...

When you forget...
When you question...
When you wonder...

All you have to do...
Is take a look around...
And you'll see them.
You'll see their faces.
You'll see their smiles.
You'll feel their love.

In their eyes, you'll see their journeys...
You'll remember their beginnings...
You'll know how far they've come...

You'll remember when they didn't know you...
When they didn't trust you...
When they'd given up.

You'll remember how you healed them...
How you loved them...
How they loved you, too.

And as you look back...
You'll want to move forward...
For them... and because of them.

In your darkest hours, you'll look around...
To find the differences made... the hope given... and the lives saved...
Because you existed.

In those moments, when you look into their eyes... every doubt will be erased.
Every question will be answered.
Every worry will subside.

Because in that instant... in each of your hearts...
You both share the very same thought:
"Every bit of pain was worth it... for this moment here with you."
And honestly... no matter what else happens...
Those moments hold all the strength you need...
To keep going.

Rescue is pain.
Rescue is joy.
Rescue is worth it... because they are worth it.

And that's the honest truth."
