The Women’s Healthcare Conference is here!

On September 26 at 8:30 a.m., we’ll kick off our conference with a keynote panel on , representation, and the impact diversity has on healthcare outcomes.

Our moderator, Clifton Kenon Jr, DNP, RN, IBCLC, FAWHONN, FAAN, will host the discussion with three keynote panelists: Connie Graves, MD, Karie Stewart, MSN, MPH, CNM, FACNM at Melanated Midwives and Jamille Nagtalon-Ramos, EdD, MSN, WHNP-BC, FAANP.

Due to the nation’s dark history, it’s been a long journey for midwives—especially those of color—to be able to practice in their communities.
Even today, the number of Black midwives is disproportionately low while the Black maternal mortality rate is disproportionately high. The two are connected, as the historical erasure of women of color in the reproductive health care space has further exacerbated maternal health disparities. This lesson can guide policymakers into increasing representation of Black midwives and midwives of color to shift the balance of power and support new moms.

Support organizations that are actively working towards increasing the number of melanated midwives in our communities like Melanated Midwives✊🏾

Understanding the origin of this disparity is key to addressing the shortage of midwives of color.

This role we take on is NOT and can NOT be taken on lightheartedly.

For the passion you have for this work and to be of service to your people and community will carry you through those long days and rough nights and at crazy lengthens that your physical and emotional desire to do so could ever.

Remember you need to pause too
Remember you need reflection too!
Remember you need community too!
Remember you need rest too!
Remember you need a reset too!

So on today take a pause, and reflect on all that you have accomplished for yourself and your community. Rest and reset then go forth and continue the assignment that has been setup on spirit boldly and with no regrets for you BELONG here!!
