This National Hispanic & Latino Heritage Month, we're highlighting our partners at La Casa Norte, which recently broke ground in Humboldt Park!

Mars Snacking Foundation invested $100,000 through its Community Connection grant to support La Casa Norte’s new non-congregate shelter, which will offer 43 private living spaces for youth 18-24 experiencing homelessness. This grant is helping create a first-floor community hub with a kitchen, drop-in programming space, and a computer lab, open to both residents and neighborhood youth.

As Jose M. Muñoz, CEO of La Casa Norte, shares: “We help young people see their culture and stories as sources of strength. By creating spaces where they feel valued and connected, we nurture pride in who they are and confidence in the future they can build.”

Congratulations to the La Casa Norte team and Mars, Incorporated on creating this incredible resource in Humboldt Park!

Last month, LISC was proud to join neighbors and community partners in celebrating the launch of Garfield Park’s first-ever Quality of Life Plan! 🎉

More than 1,500 people contributed their time, ideas, and vision to shaping the plan’s nine pillars, which together make up a living blueprint for guiding investment into the future of Garfield Park.

We are so excited to lend our support, and can’t wait to see the opportunities in store for this neighborhood.

Tahj MacLaren has been part of Hoops in the Hood since 2020–first as a player in Bronzeville, now as one of the people helping make it happen.

After being invited by a coach from the North Side to help a Hoops team there, Tahj spent six years building bridges and a community between Chicago's South and North Sides. Through Hoops in the Hood, he found mentors, built lasting friendships with community members and police officers alike, and discovered a side of himself he didn't know was there: a connector, a leader, a builder of community.

Tahj's goal now? To bring that same spirit home to Bronzeville one day.
