🚨 Urgent Community Alert from Our 40th
Our 40th is an Independent Political Organization (IPO) that organizes for racial, social, environmental, and economic justice in the 40th ward and throughout the city of Chicago.
🏛️ Alderpeople Raymond Lopez and Silvana Tabares are working to further President Trump’s mass deportation agenda by permitting the Chicago Police Department (CPD)* to engage in immigration enforcement through their Anti-Sanctuary City Ordinance (O2023-0004222) that they plan to introduce to City Council on January 15th, THIS COMING WEDNESDAY.
*(CPD opposes this added strain on resources.)
The proposed ordinance would permit the CPD to assist with immigration enforcement and deportations if an individual has been arrested for or convicted of certain crimes, including minor crimes like loitering and possession of controlled substances.
👥 Members of Our 40th believe that everyone, regardless of immigration status, should be able to seek help from police without fear. Our 40th and groups across the city are requesting YOUR voice to tell the City Council to vote NO on O2023-0004222.
