Rooster & Hen Resources Supporting families, children, and communities with grief and loss of all kinds w/resources and edu

Healing shouldn’t come with shame. 🤍

Our very own team member Astrid Mayorga, admits this is how she feels about her own community. She identifies as Latina, but really in many communities, seeking therapy can feel taboo—like it questions family, gratitude, or strength.

Still, understanding what you’re feeling isn’t betrayal… it’s care. It’s courage. It’s choosing to see yourself clearly so you can heal fully.

You’re allowed to need support. You’re allowed to be both grateful and hurting.

Great view. Great people.
What a meaningful time at Salesforce Chicago for their event.

It’s on their Ohana floor and it really did feel like a family showcase of artists, entrepreneurs, storytellers, and foodies altogether. For us, it affirmed that the grief experience is also a part of culture whether those stories are softly whispered, read aloud, or silently understood.

We recruited sponsors for our latest Chinese edition of and folks were touched to bring this special story to families and classrooms!
Thank you to everyone who stopped by, shared a story, took a listen, and gave their time.

Sometimes the art doesn’t stay on the page.

It travels home,
finds its way to the dinner table,
and opens conversations that might not have happened otherwise.

Small hands creating…
leading to big, meaningful moments.

“The meaning behind every art lesson is topic of conversation at the dinner table all the time.”

This is how connection grows—
one story, one question, one shared moment at a time. 💛

Adding a thread to our community yarn heart. Connections and sharing story was the main attractions when we rolled out to the Umbrella Arts Fest. ♥️

It was story after story. And even though we might have touch upon grief and loss, as you can see there was joy in the sharing of creativity.

Thank you for all who stopped by, read Moving In Forever, sponsored a book, and made art with us.

🎙️ NEW Side Door Conversations episode is here 💛

We’re honored to welcome Tina Thomas — grief counselor, storyteller, gamer, sister, and advocate for children and families navigating loss.

In this deeply moving conversation, we explore:
✨ grief as connection, not something to “fix”
✨ creative healing through art, storytelling, and even Dungeons & Dragons
✨ sibling loss, caregiving, and carrying love after loss
✨ how children express grief through play, imagination, and community
✨ what it means to hold joy and heartbreak at the same time

One of our favorite moments:
“The stories are sad, but the kids are fun.”

Together, we talk about creating spaces where grief doesn’t have to hide — where light can reach the shadowy places.
Thank you, Tina, for sharing your story, your heart, and the beautiful work you do. 💛
