Ainda estamos um pouco sem palavras desde que soubemos da partida da Dee, alguém que conhecemos desde que era um bebê. Tivemos o privilégio de vê-la crescer e se tornar uma pessoa maravilhosa, generosa e dedicada, que fez da dança a missão de sua vida.
A última vez que conversamos com Dee foi durante uma reunião de preparação para um desfile cultural e artístico no centro de Chicago. Descanse em paz, Dee. Que o céu seja o seu eterno palco de dança.

We are still feeling a little numb after hearing about the passing of Dee, someone we've known since she was a little kid. She grew up to be a wonderful, caring person who dedicated her life to dance. The last time we spoke, we were at a meeting getting ready for a cultural and arts parade in downtown Chicago. May she rest in power, and may heaven be your dance floor, Dee.

As the United States celebrates Independence Day, it is a moment to reflect on how the ideals of liberty and self-government also inspired movements in Brazil, especially in Bahia. Different histories, shared aspirations: liberty, courage, and resistance.
From the Bandeira da Bahia—inspired by the colors of freedom—to the people who fought for it, such as Maria Quitéria and Maria Felipa, this is a celebration for everyone.
As we honor Bahia's independence and America's Fourth of July, the Brazilian Cultural Center of Chicago celebrates the values that connect our histories: freedom, resilience, cultural heritage, and hope for future generations.

Dois de Julho 🇧🇷 — o dia em que a Bahia garantiu a independência do Brasil em 1823.
Enquanto os Estados Unidos celebram o Dia da Independência, este é um momento para refletir sobre como os ideais de liberdade e autogoverno também inspiraram movimentos no Brasil, especialmente na Bahia. Histórias diferentes, aspirações compartilhadas: liberdade, coragem e resistência.
Da Bandeira da Bahia — inspirada nas cores da liberdade — ao povo que lutou por ela, como Maria Quitéria e Maria Felipa, esta é uma celebração de todos.
