Remembering Our Friend and Board Member Bob Smietana
It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of our dear friend and longtime board member, Bob Smietana.
Bob joined the Chicago Commons Board of Directors in 1998 and, for nearly three decades, was a steadfast champion of our mission. Throughout his years of service, Bob gave generously of his time, leadership, and support.
Bob’s commitment to Chicago Commons extended well beyond his own board service. He brought his family, business, and colleagues into our mission, including his daughter, Kristin, who followed in his footsteps by serving on the Chicago Commons Board. Their shared commitment to our work is a meaningful part of Bob’s legacy and a reflection of how deeply Chicago Commons and its mission mattered to him and his family.
For those of us who had the privilege of serving alongside Bob, his loss will be deeply felt. We are tremendously grateful for the many years he devoted to Chicago Commons and for the lasting impact he leaves on our organization.
We will miss Bob greatly and will always be grateful that he chose to make Chicago Commons such an important part of his life.
"Strange, isn't it? Each man's life touches so many other lives. When he isn't around, he leaves an awful hole, doesn't he?"
