SECOND FRIDAY: FROM FOODIES WITH LOVE 4.12.24 // 7pm - 9 pm. Celebrating something that ties us all together, food!

"From Foodies with Love" is inspired by the various things that food brings to the human experience. We want to create a show that showcases the diversity, stories, and meanings that people tie to food.

Curated by Whitney Sasaki: creates works surrounding themes of love, relationships, coziness, identity and healing. Using various mediums, vibrant colors, and organic elements, her art invites viewers to imagine a calm, liberating space within everyday environments. She has had her artwork displayed in various major cities, including Los Angeles, San Francisco, New York City, Chicago, and London.

Food is one of Whitney's favorite things to talk about. The idea of "From Foodies with Love" came from a conversation that she was having with her co host on her podcast "Building Communi-Tea" when they talked about their relationship to Asian food while growing up in America.

This Thursday, join us for Hojalata love 🥁💥💕 !! Hojalata is a traditional Mexican folk art made from embossed tin, often painted with vibrant colors. Natalia T will teach you embossing techniques to create your own sacred heart. All materials provided, but note ‼️ you will be handling sharp objects! We’re so excited to be participating in the Orange Tent Market ⛺️ organized by and this weekend! Proceeds will be going to help supply tents for those experiencing homelessness in our city 🧡🧡🧡 Visit our table for more info about our space, as well as some fun crafty activities and art for sale. We’ll be surrounded by a variety of awesome vendors (see second slide) offering vintage and handmade goods, not to mention some bomb.com food trucks and tunes that’ll make ya shake what yo mama gave ya. ATTN Eco nerds (we love u) 💚✨ this one’s for you !! This Thursday, June 29 Halie Z is leading a workshop on how to make round mats from fabric scraps. Using a traditional basket weaving technique, Halie will guide you on how to weave material around rope and coil it together to form a flat mat. Use it as a personal placemat, trivet, or perhaps to add a little zap of color beneath your planter or serving/decorative bowl 🌈🥣 (makes a sweet gift too!!). So many options! Join us this Thursday for a bookbinding workshop by our very own Vincenza L , where she will teach you the ancient Coptic stitching method to make a flat-fold book 📖.
Coptic binding is the ancestor of the modern book, first created in 50-100 CE by the Copts in Egypt. These books are constructed with a decorative chain stitching across an exposed spine, which showcases the colorful threads holding the pages together.
These handmade books can be used as a sketchbook, scrapbook, notepad, etc and make a great DIY gift (if you’re looking to impress 😉). This Friday is Second Friday! In conjunction with our upcoming networking event, this Friday’s theme is Creative Block. Some of history’s greatest art has arrived through overcoming challenges! Our artists will be sharing obstacles they’ve encountered through their work, whether it be in conception, process, emotion, etc etc etc. so swing by Art Camp to check out the gallery, open studios, and work our artists have for sale. This Friday, May 12 join us for a solo show for resident artist member Phoenix! Phoenix’s stenciled and hand painted designs feature vibrant hues and contrasting linework, covering a range of themes from religion to politics.

As per usual on Second Friday, our studios will also be open for touring, and there will be art for sale. So treat your eyes and swing by this Friday!
