When Gary Payton ll was cut by the Golden State Warriors right before the season, he wanted to stay in the NBA so badly he approached the Warriors about a role with the team's video coordination department.

One GSW assistant heard about this and said:
"Gary, I'm not letting you do that. There is no chance in the world you are going to do that. You are playing for this team."

Payton responded by working his way back onto the roster and becoming an invaluable member of the Warriors, despite years of getting cut and struggling to break into the league.
