The Children's Book Fair of Hyde Park Annual Book Fair on the South Side of Chicago The Children’s Book Fair has chosen to highlight Banned Books for 2022 theme.

The Fair partners with book sellers, artists, performers and community members from in and around the Hyde Park neighborhood to provide a fun, literacy rich experience for children and families. The Book Fair is featuring Banned Books in 2022.

Do you have a favorite book that’s been banned? Write an essay about it and submit it to us by September 1. We will select some of the best ones and present them and their authors at the Fair.

Banned Book Essay Submit an essay of 500 words or less about a favorite book of yours that’s been banned, and what it means to you. Submit by September 1, 2022. This year's Book Fair theme is Banned Books, and will kick off "Banned Book Week". From the American Library Association's website:

"Banned Books Week, typically held during the last week of September, spotlights current and historical attempts to censor books in libraries and schools. It brings together the entire book community — librarians, booksellers, publishers, journalists, teachers, and readers of all types — in shared support of the freedom to seek and to express ideas, even those some consider unorthodox or unpopular.

Sharing stories important to us means sharing a part of ourselves. Books reach across boundaries and build connections between readers. Censorship, on the other hand, creates barriers.

The books featured during Banned Books Week have all been targeted for removal or restriction in libraries and schools. By focusing on efforts across the country to remove or restrict access to books, Banned Books Week draws national attention to the harms of censorship."

Tweet The American Library Association condemns censorship and works to ensure free access to information. Every year, the Office for Intellectual Freedom (OIF) compiles a list of the Top 10 Most Challenged Books in order to inform the public about censorship in libraries and schools. The lists are....
