We establish tenants unions to defend working-class people in our communities from landlords and to weaken the power of private property. A tenants union is a revolutionary body; it is a means to a larger end. All RTA tenants unions strive for the termination of the landlord-tenant relationship, a clear material contradiction and one of the most violent expressions of the capitalist system.
We aim to organize every building, on every street, in every neighborhood. It is not enough to deal with the problems of the day; rather, we seek to build a movement that unites all tenants in our city in a revolutionary struggle against landlords and the capitalist class.
We are anti-capitalist unions. The current system of capitalism perpetuates class society, which gives rise to many types of exploitation and inequality. Chief among them is the system of landlordism. We believe that a new system is in order.
We are firmly committed to combating housing insecurity in our regions. We collaborate with and support the work of those who have developed networks to ensure that the most vulnerable victims of capitalism are not put on the street. Our tenants unions seek to sharpen militant class consciousness and build for revolution through constant agitation against landlords and through political education. Our tenants unions follow the mass line. The leadership of the union ultimately comes from the people. We unite with and organize the people to save themselves from their exploiters, because we are of the people and for the people. We seek unity and principled relationships with all revolutionary forces within our community that have a record of solid work, principled relationships, and real commitment to the revolution. We seek unity first, struggle later. We are not interested in vacuous ideological debates and quarrels over ideology before establishing working relationships. We work with all who are fighting the exploitative system of landlordism. We are anti-racist unions, and we are anti-white supremacist unions. White supremacy is the major threat to the development of working-class tenant power in the United States. Landlordism is an apendage of the white supremacist system. The landlord class is a predominantly white body that sustains itself by ravaging the meager wealth of black, brown, asian, indegenous, and working-class people of all creeds. White supremacists seek to divide the working class based on the color of our skin. We relentlessly combat and destroy vestiges of white supremacist thinking within ourselves and within others.
