Our friend Rinnam Wiggins sadly passed away Thursday, February 5 at the age of 73. His family is requesting help covering the cost of cremation and a memorial service.

My name is Drew, and I met my friend Mr. Wiggins through our neighborhood mutual aid group. We've worked together every week for the past 4+ years to distribute fresh food to the West Side of Chicago, where he primarily grew up. Mr. Wiggins was one of the first neighbors I met after getting involved with our group. We quickly bonded over our love of music and both growing up in the South – he was born in Mississippi a few hours from Memphis, where I’m from. He was a great friend to me and truly a special person: someone who knew what it was like to struggle and was always looking to lift other people up. He was stubborn in the best ways and always kept moving and staying open to learning and pushing forward.

Please consider helping ease the burden on his loved ones during this difficult time.

we are grateful that so many folks stepped up to meet the expanding needs of our community in 2025. our neighbors have been gravely hurt by increased state violence and weakened social and government programs. we need to look out for each other, and are doing so through this ever-growing community of care.

in 2025 we…
🛒 delivered groceries and requested items to 100+ families/week
👟held 10+ material drives & swaps
📧 received 800+ volunteer forms
💸 went from $2,650/month to $7,132/month in donations, allowing us to purchase household goods for our families and food for mutual aid groups across the city

we are good on monthly donations! please consider supporting:

Asia, a Chicago single mother of 4, is looking for help from her community. Asia is a full-time caregiver for her children. She fell on hard times last year, taking a serious hit after SNAP benefits were cut in November.

Recently, Asia was served a 30-day eviction notice by her landlord, which would displace her and her 4 children. If Asia is able to pay half of what is owed, her landlord will give her until March to pay the rest. Asia is expecting to receive additional aid from the government next month, which will qualify her for a loan to cover the rest of the back rent, but the eviction process will have already started. Meeting this fundraising goal will allow Asia to avoid eviction, keeping a roof over her family's head while they get back on their feet!

Mutual aid is when people get together to meet each other’s basic survival needs with a shared understanding that the systems we live under are not going to meet our needs and we can do it together right now! Mutual aid projects are a form of political participation in which people take responsibility for caring for one another and changing political conditions, not just through symbolic acts or putting pressure on their representatives in government, but by actually building new social relations that are more survivable. Most mutual aid projects are volunteer-based, with people jumping in to participate because they want to change what is going on right now, not wait to convince corporations or politicians to do the right thing. Please donate to help our coalition of mutual aid groups continue to deliver food across the city!

We are part of a coalition of autonomous mutual aid organizations called Chicagoland Food Sovereignty Coalition. Together, we work to create an equitable and sustainable community-based food system in Chicago. We serve 25+ neighborhoods, rescue 30 tons of food per week, and distribute food to over 9,000 neighbors.
With the cuts to granting and funding, many of our consistent weekly food donations have been scaled back or have stopped altogether. Now with the cuts to SNAP, the demand is increasing at the same time the supply is shrinking. In order to offset this lack of food donations, we'll need to purchase more food.

That's where you come in! By donating to our Coalition fund, you'll be helping to support our efforts to feed our community and work towards food sovereignty in the Chicagoland area.
