MEET GREG.
"I abused narcotics and barbiturates ("street drugs") for the better part of 10 years. When I entered the program at LHRF, I thought I was hopelessly addicted. My friends and family were worried about my unpredictable mood swings and bizarre behavior. I feared that I would lose them.
On the first week of treatment, I was not a compliant patient at the clinic. But month by month, 2-3 times each week, I attended group sessions, and was warmly greeted by a room full of recovering addicts like myself. We spoke about the importance of acceptance, humility and making amends for past behaviors. I learned that I am not responsible for my addiction, but that I am responsible for my recovery.
As a client of the clinic, I met with the physicians and counselors on an individual basis. I was randomly screened for drugs; however, on the last three months of treatment, my screenings were clean of all drugs besides the medication that the clinic prescribed. After nine months of medication-assisted treatment, I requested to be detoxed out. After detoxing from the medications, I continued to take part in the group sessions.
Thanks to LHRF, my life has turned around completely. I received a Certificate of Achievement on September 1, 2020, I have two years of recovery, and I have two jobs. I went from someone that my friends and family tried to avoid to someone who is often sought out for advice or just to help someone with a problem. Today, I feel that I am a better husband, father, employee, friend, and member of society than I ever was before. I now live in hope, rather than fear."
We look forward to supporting more clients like Greg overcome the disease of opioid addiction!
