Dear Friend,
We hope you all are staying safe and healthy during this unprecedented and challenging time. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. We want to stress the importance of taking care of yourself, remaining positive, and continuing to have hope for a promising future. Along these lines, we also want to show our gratitude for those healthcare professionals who are on the frontlines each day, caring for not only our local but also our global community.
During this time, the Himalayan Health Center Foundation (HHCF) continues to strive towards its goals. We have been committed for the past 24 years to provide quality health care in the Indo-Tibetan borderland regions. Donations to Himalayan Health Center support our five permanent clinic sites in Spiti, Manali, Zanskar, and two in Bir Tibetan settlements where we provide access to free medical and dental care and teach preventative practices. These clinics directly support Tibetan refugee children and native people. Our efforts have had a real impact on maintaining traditions and improving medical treatment in medically underserved populations.
Our affiliate organization, the Himalayan Health Exchange’s (HHE) last trip to Outer Western Himalayas in February helped to support our vision for global healthcare equality. HHE conducts trips with healthcare professionals and students to provide care to populations in remote areas of the Indian Himalayas. During this past trip, 2,292 patients were treated for various medical conditions including parasitic intestinal infections, TB, untreated congenital disorders, and many others. Below, we have included photos from previous expeditions of patients we have treated.
Due to the current COVID-19 crisis in India, many patients in these regions above mentioned will have even more limited access to care. In the past, the joint effort of HHC and HHE was successful in treating between 11,000 and 13,000 patients per year at our clinic sites. Your support will help HHC continue to maintain ongoing health care to the people in these regions. For the time being, HHE and HHC will continue to stand by based upon CDC recommendations for travel. In future newsletters, we will provide updates regarding the effects of the coronavirus on our region and our clinics.
We want to take a moment to thank you for your strength during this time. We are thinking of each one of you who has shown support in the past. We consider you all to be family and invite you to become apart of our vision for global healthcare equality.

With Peace,
