“The strength of a nation derives from the integrity of the home.” — Confucius
are the foundation of every thriving society, and investing in their well-being is essential to achieving the Development Goals.
The 2026 theme, “Families, Inequalities and Child Wellbeing,” reminds us that widening disparities in income, healthcare, education, caregiving support, and digital access are shaping the futures of children around the world.
At UNA Chicago, we believe strong families are critical to building resilient communities and advancing equity. When families lack access to affordable childcare, parental support, quality education, and economic stability, the long-term impacts are felt across generations.
This year’s observance calls for bold, integrated, family-centered policies that reduce inequality and create pathways for children to thrive ➤ regardless of race, gender, migration status, disability, or socioeconomic background.
As we work toward the 2030 Agenda, this conversation is not only global, it is deeply local.
Communities, policymakers, educators, advocates, and institutions all have a role to play in creating systems that support healthy child development and equal opportunity for all.
Together, we can help build a future where every child has the chance to succeed, and every family has the support to flourish.
