Why do you think this quote can be controversial?
This was taken in 2016 after a little league softball regional championship game, where the team that made this sign advanced to the little league softball World Series.
Randomly in the last ten years, people will post this, and there are comments from people who don’t agree with it - why do you think that is?
My take:
Even though this sign was from 2016, but the meaning of the quote never ages - it will always be the truth.
Every time it goes viral, there are people (not a lot) who comment that the meaning behind it isn’t true and that only bench players think this way.
They’re wrong.
Softball doesn’t define you as a person.
Pitching doesn’t define you as a person.
Your ERA doesn’t define you as a person.
The amount of homeruns you hit doesn’t define you as a person.
And in your current role on your TEAM, are you making it about your or are you making it about your team? NO MATTER, if you’re the starting pitcher or a pinch runner.
The game is never about one person - whether that one person plays a lot, or a little.
And that’s the beauty of the game.
What defines you?
How you *decide*…
- to work hard
- to have a good attitude
- to own your role
Key word - decide. (Aka in your control)
This weekend, I’ll head to the Little League Softball World Series again to call it on ESPN.
