FREE TITA REBECCA!
In solidarity with .chicago & we are asking our neighbors and comrades to join PUSO’s week of action for Tita Rebecca. Tita is a 71 year old Filipina who has received a deportation order but is still being held in detention at Clark County Detention Center in Indiana. She accepted a deportation order in October, but has waited in detention almost 3 months. At this detention center she has experienced sexual harassment, has struggled with her health conditions and consistent access to medicine, and has been isolated many months from her loved ones.
We ask the our community to join the following actions to pressure the Philippine Consulate to intervene on Tita Rebecca’s behalf. Although ICE activity has gone down in our city, there are still ways to support our neighbors who have been moved and held captive by the amerikan government.
Upcoming Actions this week:
Tuesday, December 16 at 6pm - Meet Tita Rebecca’s Family (RSVP with Tanggol Migrante Chicago)
Thursday, December 18 at 11am - Press Conference for Tita Rebecca at the Philippine Consulate, 122 S Michigan Ave
We demand for the Filipino Consulate to use their consular powers to advocate for:
- Tita R's quick release so she does not remain in detention where she is experiencing inhumane conditions.
- Continued medical assistance and extend consular privileges to pressure the ICE facility to ensure she continues to receive medication as well as guarantee she receives a full comprehensive medical examination before her departure
- Provide a Letter of Endorsement to the Dept. of Social Welfare & Development in the Philippines to ensure that Tita Rebecca gets access to immediate medical assistance and a prescription for her critical medication when she lands in the Philippines.
