The last few weeks have brought so many different battles for our street vendor community—from arrests, fines, harassment, to vendors being detained after leaving the court house.
Tomorrow, we will gather with our community of vendors at City Hall to stand together and make our voices heard. Through public comments and testimony, we’ll speak up for the thousands of street vendors across Chicago who are afraid to raise their voices because of the risks they face.
Our community deserves dignity, respect, and the freedom to earn an honest living without fear of criminalization.
On a brighter note, we were finally able to reunite with Fausto, a tamal vendor who was in a detention center for eight months, when he was detained in front of his stand. After all this time, we were pleased to give him his vendor relief check that has been waiting for him all this time.
Join us at City Hall 10 AM tomorrow. Come listen, speak out, and stand with street vendors as we challenge the criminalization of our community.
