Until recently, the issue of academic burnout has been widely ignored by universities when discussing students’ well-being on campus. The expectation, for years, was that students maintain a full-time courseload while juggling part-to-full time jobs, be involved on campus, and acquire the necessary skills for their program through rigorous, unpaid internships. This system also fails to acknowledge non-traditional students who may be a parent or hold a traditional 9-5 job. In addition to these potential responsibilities, a student may be struggling mentally, physically, or financially in their personal life.

These struggles are a part of daily life, and because this is so well-endured, we at Empress hope to break the stigma regarding college burnout.

Not all dreams look like [this], not all dreams fit into a neat little box. It might be easier if that were the case, but in reality, we each take our own messy, backwards path towards our dreams, no matter what it may be— keep pushing forward. Don't try to fit into the neat box.
