Lupus Awareness Month is in May, but the work starts now.

This April, I’m preparing for a 3-day trip to Washington, DC to advocate for individuals living with lupus—especially right here in Illinois.

Advocacy isn’t just a moment, it’s a movement. It’s preparation, long days, and showing up so our community can be seen, heard, and supported.

Follow along as I get ready for this journey to DC… because we’re not waiting until May to make an impact.

The Middle Bee Foundation for Lupus is actively seeking a passionate and dedicated individual to join our Board of Directors!

This is a non-paid, volunteer leadership role requiring a 1-year commitment (with the option to extend) and an average of 8–10 hours per month.

The Middle Bee Foundation for Lupus is committed to supporting individuals affected by lupus through meaningful programs and services.

Mission: We are dedicated to bringing ease to the lives of all people affected by lupus through support, education, and advocacy services.

Vision: Our hope is to ultimately put an end to this disease and to live in a world where lupus no longer exists.

💛 What We’re Looking For

Our ideal board member is:

• Passionate about community health, advocacy, or chronic illness awareness

• Dependable, collaborative, and committed to making an impact

• Willing to share ideas, support organizational growth, and serve as an ambassador

• Experienced in nonprofit work, healthcare, fundraising, marketing, or leadership (preferred but NOT required!)

• Open to learning and growing within a mission-driven organization

🌍 Location Flexibility
You do NOT have to reside in Illinois to join!

• Board members outside of Illinois can support outreach efforts within their own communities

• However, we ask that all members make it a priority to attend our Annual Lupus Walk

🤝 What You’ll Do

• Support strategic planning and organizational development

• Assist with outreach, awareness, and advocacy initiatives

• Participate in board meetings and collaborative discussions

• Help expand our impact and reach those in need

🌟 Flexible Ways to ContributeWe understand that everyone’s availability and strengths are different. If a full board commitment isn’t the right fit but you still want to support our mission, we are open to discussing alternative ways for you to contribute and get involved.

March is Kidney Awareness Month, and we’re shining a light on the connection between lupus and kidney health. 💜

Lupus warrior L’Mekka Edwards will be joining us at our upcoming Lupus Support Group Meeting to bring awareness to lupus nephritis and share important information for our community.

This is a FREE in-person meeting where lupus warriors, caregivers, family, and friends are all welcome. We will also be providing care packages and food for attendees.

Let’s come together to learn, support one another, and raise awareness. 💜
