Today, we are honored to welcome Mr. Jerry McClellan, Colonel, USAF (Retired), and his wife, Joan McClellan, to the Cambodian Association of Illinois and the National Cambodian Heritage Museum and Killing Fields Memorial.
Mr. McClellan was one of the many pilots who carried out missions in Cambodia during a difficult period in the country’s history and became deeply passionate about helping the Cambodian people. His service in Cambodia took place from 1971 to 1972, during which he flew nearly 200 sorties in the OV-10 Bronco aircraft. His experiences and dedication to Cambodia had such a profound impact on him that he gave his second son the middle name “Thom,” in honor of the city of Kompong Thom, which he supported almost daily during his missions.
On behalf of the Cambodian Association of Illinois, we would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude and sincere appreciation for taking the time to visit our organization and the National Cambodian Heritage Museum and Killing Fields Memorial. It was truly an honor and privilege to welcome both of you.
We are especially grateful for your extraordinary generosity in donating the treasured Angkor Wat Temple rubbing that you have carefully preserved since 1972, along with your valuable collection of historical books and materials related to Cambodia’s history and heritage. These remarkable items are not only historically significant, but they also carry deep cultural and personal meaning. Your thoughtful donation represents an important contribution toward preserving the memory, history, and resilience of the Cambodian people for future generations.
The Angkor Wat Temple rubbing is a beautiful and meaningful piece of Cambodian cultural heritage. We are deeply honored that you have entrusted the Cambodian Association of Illinois with its care and preservation. We will proudly display this special artifact in our office so that community members, visitors, students, and future generations may learn from and appreciate its historical and cultural significance.
Your kindness, friendship, and continued support mean so much to our organization and to the broader Cambodian community in Illinois. Contributions such as yours help strengthen our mission to preserve Cambodian history, educate the public, honor the memories of survivors and refugees, and promote understanding of Cambodia’s rich cultural heritage and tragic history.
Once again, please accept our deepest thanks and appreciation for your generosity, compassion, and dedication to preserving history. We are truly grateful for your support and look forward to continuing our friendship and collaboration in the years ahead.
