🔬 Marie Skłodowska-Curie: the first person to win two Nobel Prizes, in physics and chemistry.
🛡️ The bulletproof vest: developed in the 1890s by Kazimierz Żegleń, a Polish priest living right here in Chicago!
🪖 Kevlar: invented in 1965 by Stephanie Kwolek, a daughter of Polish immigrants. It’s used today in vests, helmets and even tires.
🪔 The kerosene lamp: invented in 1853 by Ignacy Łukasiewicz, who also built one of the world’s first oil wells.
