Hello to all the new freshman parents and to any new parents to Amundsen. I am the current president of Friends of Amundsen and want to share a bit about what we do as an organization and the best ways to quickly get involved,acquainted and build a community with your new school.
We have two main fundraisers during the school year, one at the beginning of the year, Back to School Boost and our gala in February, Raise the Sails as well as a few other ways interspersed throughout. There are many opportunities big and small to volunteer for these events but we currently have an event we are still trying to staff for this Saturday the 18th at the Roscoe Village Burgerfest. This is how I got started volunteering here with my first Amundsen student and I have many wonderful friendships that have grown since then. We also have a start of school meetup the first week of school on that first Friday, Donuts for Grownups where all of our leadership will be present as well as some school admin to welcome you and answer any questions.
The Amundsen Community page is a good place to find answers to some questions as incoming parents and traditionally the “Amundsen Class of” pages are started and moderated by a self appointed volunteer. To my knowledge one has not been started yet but it’s anyone’s for the taking I would just ask to share it a few times on the community page so people see it and I can do as well on the Friends of Amundsen socials as well. As an organization with seasoned Amundsen parents we are easily accessible to help answer any questions or help to find the right person to get an answer.
That being said, we are in need of new voices and perspectives as we move forward with the next generations of Vikings and would encourage you all to come to our once a month Monday meetings in the school library to find out more about how we function,what we’re up to and how you can lend your voices. We also do socials every couple of months after meetings nearby in the neighborhood. We know many of you are coming from neighborhood schools and likely have other friends or acquaintances with incoming freshman as well and I encourage you to bring a friend or two or three and make a party out of it.Welcome!!

Lakeview Roscoe Village Burger Fest

Friends of Amundsen is working the beverage tent at Burger Fest, and we need volunteers to help sell beverages. All tips earning during our shift will be donated to Amundsen.

Come hang out and and enjoy Burger Fest, while earning money for Amundsen!

Volunteers must be 21+ and will receive free entrance to the event and a free drink.
