This weekend, the Chicago Cultural Alliance's Instagram page reached a milestone of 10,000 followers. We want to take a moment to celebrate what this number truly represents: a community of advocates, volunteers, and believers who care deeply about culture in Chicago.

Because of your support, our voice is amplified and our reach is expanded. This allows us to continue connecting, promoting, and supporting centers of cultural heritage for a more inclusive Chicago.

Thank you for sharing our posts, attending member and CCA events, and championing our cause. We look forward to growing, learning, and making a difference together.

With deepest gratitude,

The CCA Team

Bid in the MOSAIC Silent Auction for a chance to win this elegant handcrafted Samurai Doll from the Japanese American Service Committee (JASC).

This handcrafted Japanese samurai doll captures the discipline, grace, and spirit of the warrior tradition. Dressed in richly patterned robes and posed with a ceremonial sword, the figure embodies Bu — translated as “The Way,” a concept representing the path of honor, courage, and mastery.

The wooden plaque beside the doll bears the character 武 (Bu) along with the artist’s signature seal and name (Uhei) in the corner, adding authenticity and cultural significance to the piece. Delicate facial detailing, traditional hairstyle, and finely tailored garments reflect the artistry and craftsmanship associated with classic Japanese doll-making traditions.

Displayed on a lacquer-style base (6 x 6 in), this 10 inch tall doll makes a striking addition to any home, office, or collection of Asian art and cultural décor.

Perfect for collectors, martial arts enthusiasts, or anyone who appreciates Japanese culture and craftsmanship.

Bidding is open to everyone! You do not need a ticket to MOSAIC to bid in the online auction. This is a great way to support our work for anyone who is unable to attend the gala this year.

We are incredibly grateful to the JASC, our CCA Members, and all the Chicago businesses who donated items to support this major fundraising event for the CCA.

Bid in the MOSAIC Silent Auction for a chance to win the Private Ukiyo-e Workshop with the Heritage Museum of Asian Art.

This introductory workshop offers participants a hands-on experience with Japanese woodblock printmaking, with a focus on inking and printing techniques. In this one-time session, students will engage in basic carving processes and create a one-block print featuring a design of your choice provided by the instructor. Participants will also work with two to three pre-carved blocks to explore inking and color application, gaining an understanding of kento (registration marks) and how alignment functions in traditional Japanese printmaking, including ukiyo-e.

Ukiyo-e is a genre of Japanese woodblock prints produced between the 17th and 20th centuries. Known for its dynamic compositions and layered color achieved through multiple carved blocks, ukiyo-e has had a profound influence on Western artists such as Paul Gauguin and Vincent van Gogh. This workshop will also introduce participants to both historical and contemporary Japanese artists who continue to engage with and reinterpret these techniques.

About the instructor:

Mami Takahashi is a Japanese multidisciplinary artist and scholar in Chicago. She received her MFA in Contemporary Studio Practice from Portland State University in 2013 and earned a BFA in Japanese Painting from Joshibi University of Art and Design in Japan. With ongoing artistic research, practice, and teaching, Takahashi explores different approaches to actualize Japanese aesthetics to enhance cultural perspectives in many U.S. communities. She is expanding her creativity to incorporate more specific discourses around society, past and present via a lens of Japanese art. Takahashi also aims to connect Japan and Chicago by teaching traditional and modern art-making techniques.

Capacity: 16 participants
