June is PTSD Awareness Month, an opportunity to increase understanding of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), reduce stigma, and remind those affected that healing is possible.

While many people associate PTSD with military service, PTSD can affect anyone who has experienced or witnessed a traumatic event. Trauma can impact individuals of all ages, backgrounds, and life experiences. Recovery looks different for everyone, but no one has to navigate it alone.

This PTSD Awareness Month, let's increase understanding, reduce stigma, and remind those affected by trauma that support, healing, and hope are possible. Click the link below to read this week's blog and learn more about PTSD.

Cooper's Weekly Mental Health Tip: Engage in Creative Expression!

Creative activities provide a healthy outlet for emotions, reduce stress, and can help you process thoughts and experiences in a meaningful way. You don't have to be an artist—simply creating something can support your mental well-being.

🎨 Express yourself through painting, drawing, writing, music, crafting, or other creative activities.
🎬 Focus on the process, not the outcome—creativity is about expression, not perfection.
📝 Use journaling or creative writing to explore thoughts and emotions you may find difficult to verbalize.
🪡 Create something just for yourself, without sharing or seeking feedback from others.
⏰ Set aside 10–15 minutes each day for a creative activity you enjoy.
👩‍🍳 Try a new creative hobby to stimulate your mind and build confidence.
💃 Use music, art, or movement as a healthy outlet for stress and overwhelming emotions.
🧐 Notice how creative expression can improve mood, reduce stress, and increase self-awareness.

Cooper's Weekly Mental Health Tip: Focus on One Thing at a Time

😖Multitasking can increase stress and make it harder to stay focused.
📊Prioritize your tasks and identify what needs attention first.
📑Break large projects into smaller, manageable steps.
⏱️Give your full attention to one task before moving to the next.
🤫Minimize distractions by silencing notifications or closing extra tabs.
👟Taking things one step at a time can improve productivity and reduce overwhelm.
🎯Progress, not perfection, is the goal.
💚 When everything feels important, start with just one thing. Small steps forward still move you ahead.

Mental Health Tip: Spend Time Doing Nothing

- Rest is not a reward you have to earn.
- Your worth is not measured by your productivity.
- Schedule small moments of unstructured downtime each day.
- Put down the phone, step away from the to-do list, and simply be.
- Allow your mind and body time to recover from constant stimulation.
- Quiet moments can improve focus, creativity, and emotional well-being.
- Guilt-free rest helps prevent burnout and reduces stress.
- Doing nothing isn't being lazy—it's an important form of self-care.

💚 Give yourself permission to pause today. Your mental health matters.

🧠 Mental Health Tip: Challenge Negative Thoughts

Negative self-talk can feel automatic, but that doesn't mean it's true. The way we talk to ourselves matters.

✨ Try this simple mindset shift:

• Notice the negative thought.
• Ask yourself: "Is this fact or feeling?"
• Challenge the thought with evidence.
• Reframe it with a more balanced perspective.
• Speak to yourself the way you would a friend.
• Replace criticism with compassion.
• Practice constructive affirmations daily.

💚 Instead of:
❌ "I always mess things up."

Try:
✅ "I'm learning, growing, and doing the best I can."
Remember: You don't have to believe every thought that crosses your mind. Sometimes the healthiest thing you can do is challenge it.

Mental Health Awareness Month isn’t just about statistics or hashtags. It’s about real conversations. Real struggles. Real people trying to navigate life the best they can.

One of the ways we continue that conversation at CTSHealth is through our Healthy Head Talk podcast — where we discuss mental health, wellness, parenting, stress, trauma, healing, and the realities people face every day.

This month, we’re revisiting one of our past episodes because the message still matters. 💚

Whether you’re struggling yourself, supporting someone else, or simply trying to understand mental health better — we hope these conversations remind you that you are not alone.
