Celebrating Haitian Excellence

Daughters of Haiti is proud to support Haitian-American comedian, actress, and content creator Elizabeth Brunot as she brings her comedy tour to Chicago.

Known for her relatable humor, memorable characters, and authentic take on Haitian culture and family life, Elizabeth has become a standout voice in entertainment while proudly representing our community.

Join her for an evening of laughter at City Winery Chicago on July 18.

As an organization committed to celebrating Haitian culture and uplifting Haitian women, we encourage our community to support artists and creatives who continue to showcase the richness of our heritage.

The birthright citizenship decision is important, especially for mixed-status Haitian families.

Here is what our community needs to understand:

If a child is born in the United States, that child remains a U.S. citizen at birth. This includes children born to parents with TPS, parents without legal status, and parents who may only have temporary immigration protection.

But we also have to be clear. This decision does not protect the parents’ immigration status. It does not reverse the recent TPS decision. It does not automatically give parents citizenship, a green card, or protection from removal.

Many Haitian families are living in the middle of both realities. Their children are U.S. citizens, but the parents may still be facing uncertainty, fear, and very difficult decisions.

A U.S.-citizen child cannot petition for a parent until they turn 21. Even then, every case is different, and families may still need legal guidance.

This is why the work continues.

We must protect our families, share accurate information, support trusted legal resources, and keep advocating for TPS, for Haiti, and for the dignity of our community.

Please do not panic, but please do not ignore this moment either. Get informed. Ask questions. Talk to a qualified immigration attorney or accredited legal representative.

Our children’s citizenship is protected. Now we must continue fighting for the stability and safety of their families.

From Soil to Sovereignty. From Roots to Renewal.

One of the most meaningful elements of Les Jardins d’Haïti was the series of story boards displayed throughout the evening.

More than décor, they told a story.

They reminded us that Haiti’s history is deeply rooted in the land. Agriculture has long been the foundation of our economy, our culture, and our survival. The fertile soil that once sustained generations also faced enormous challenges through deforestation, erosion, and environmental hardship.

Yet the story does not end there.

Across Haiti today, communities are restoring what was lost. Farmers are replanting trees. Women are leading agricultural initiatives. Families are embracing sustainable practices that strengthen food security, protect the environment, and create economic opportunity.

This year’s theme, Les Jardins d’Haïti, celebrated more than gardens. It celebrated resilience. It honored the people who continue to cultivate hope, dignity, and possibility despite adversity.

Just as a garden requires patience, care, and vision, so does community transformation.

The story boards served as a reminder that when we invest in women, education, sustainability, and leadership, we are planting seeds whose impact will be felt for generations to come.

The garden is not simply a place.

The garden is Haiti.
The garden is our heritage.
The garden is our future.
