🚲 Happy World Bicycle Day!

Today we celebrate the bicycle — not just as recreation, but as a tool for connection, transportation, health, and access.

In Muskegon, better bike trails and greenways mean safer routes to parks, schools, beaches, jobs, grocery stores, neighborhoods, and natural spaces.

That’s why our mission is about more than building trails. It’s about building a connected region where more people can safely walk, bike, roll, and explore.

Every trail connection matters. Every greenway matters. Every safer route brings us closer to a healthier, more accessible Muskegon.

🌿 Better trails
🚲 Safer routes
🌊 More access
🤝 Stronger communities

Happy World Bicycle Day, Muskegon!

🗺️ The Shoreline Trails and Greenway Plans is a roadmap for building a safe, connected, and activated network of interwoven trails, natural spaces, and cool places.

❓❔❓❔ But will it work?

💯💯💯 Yes - because we’ve seen it done. 👀

We’ll share one example over the next few weeks - the story of Chicago’s growing network.

Yes there are still so many cars 🚘 but they are so so many people getting around by other ways now 🛴🚏🛹🚲🛼

Today’s key lesson 📚📚📚

✅Put the green in Greenways!

The bustling Bloomingdale Trail (aka the 606) crosses three neighborhoods (which are each roughly about the same population as the City of Muskegon).

One of its strengths - it was lined with native plants when it was built - making a linear oasis and corridor for people and animals (especially birds and insects 🐦‍⬛🐝🐛).

There are many, many places this model can be followed in our area! They are just waiting to be seen 👀 and loved ❤️

Thank you, Muskegon!

In just a short time, this community has helped us grow to 500 followers — and that tells us something important:

People care about parks.
People care about trails.
People care about safer, more connected ways to walk, bike, roll, and explore our community.

The Muskegon Area Parks & Greenways Coalition is working to build awareness and support for a connected network of parks, trails, greenways, and natural spaces across our region.

And we’re just getting started.

If you believe Muskegon County should have more connected trails, safer routes, better access to parks, and more opportunities to get outside, we’d love your help.

Big news for Muskegon Heights! 🎉

After years of planning, partnership, and community effort, the revitalized Rowan Park in the heart of downtown Muskegon Heights is officially open.

The updated park now features:

💦 A new splash pad
🛝 A new playground
🚻 Modern restrooms
🎺 An iconic marching band statue honoring local pride and culture

This investment is part of the Reaching New Heights plan—and it’s another reminder that parks are more than places to play. They are gathering spaces, neighborhood anchors, and signs of momentum.

Congratulations to Muskegon Heights and everyone who helped make this project happen. This is what community progress looks like. 🌿
