Rotary Club of Chicago Citywide Service

Rotary Club of Chicago Citywide Service New type of Rotary Club with an emphasis on participation in volunteer service projects versus attendance at weekly meetings!

Some of the unique features of this Club include;

1. Flexible meeting arrangements and organization to accommodate busy schedules,
2. Unlike an E-club, Passport clubs have a defined geographical service area – D6450 – Chicago,
3. Members participate in wider range of service – local organizations, global service projects, other
club’s projects, all of their choosing
4. Lower cost due to fewer mee

tings, fewer meals and member cost sharing for in-person events,
5. Attractive to not only individuals, but families, encouraging service by all family members,
6. Connecting with other Rotary clubs furthers partnerships and idea sharing,
7. Broad appeal to a potential member who cannot attend weekly in-person Rotary meetings,
8. Focus on being Rotarians – supporting the initiatives, goals and humanitarian service of Rotary.

Yesterday Club members volunteered at Working Bikes. Working Bikes strengthens local and global communities by giving donated bicycles new life and redistributing them as tools for self-determination. Since its inception in 1999, the amazing community of Working Bikes volunteers, staff, partners, and supporters have enabled new life for 150,000 bicycles across the globe and tens of thousands here in Chicago. Over one hundred thousand people have been empowered to access resources and opportunities that otherwise could have been out of reach - reducing waste, lessening pollution, and improving health in the process. Working Bikes is located in Chicago's Little Village neighborhood, and is a 501(c)(3) organization.

Fun time as usual volunteering with fellow Rotarians. Care For Real is a very organized establishment. You always feel a sense of accomplishment and support for the community when volunteering there. We were able to support them in serving over 380 families. So awesome to help out.

The Rotary Club of Chicago Citywide Service partnered with the South Loop Neighbors coordinating the 2026 Earth Day Clean-Up. This year volunteeers cleaned a 12 block by 3 block area in the South Loop with Roosevelt Rd between State St and Michigan Avenue as the central part of the clean-up. For several years this area has been an area of concern for residents. The Chicago Police Dept along with the Cook County Sheriffs Office, who recently opened a Sub-Station at the corner of Roosevelt Rd and State St., have signficantly helped begin a positive transformation of the area and the clean-up was a way to demonstrate that the cirtizens have a part to play in creating a sense of community. Turnout was fantastic and as the clean-up covered parts of the 3rd ward, 4th Ward and 34th Ward, among the many who showed up to support were Ald Dowell (3rd Ward), Ald Conway (34th Ward), Chief of Staff Sheila Marionneaux (4th Ward) and Adrienne Johnson of the 1st District Police Council. This clean-up effort was supported by a Rotary District 6450 Grant and supplies donated by Trader Joes.

The Rotary District 6450 Conference was held this week-end and it was fantastic! In addition to great speakers including Rotary International President Elect Olayinka Hakeem "Yinka" Babalola (from the Rotary Club of Trans Amadi, Nigeria), networking with other Rotarians, the Club had great representation at the Club Showcase, due to what was clearly a lot of prep work by Club President Ashley!

For those that have not seen it, Rotary International this past week recognized six members and program participants (world-wide) age 30 and under as Rotary People of Action: ‘Champions of Tomorrow’ for their leadership in advancing impactful, youth‑centered initiatives that are helping to create the foundations for brighter futures. One of the 6 named is in fact our very own Derrick Kabuye! Derrick, besides being a very active member of the Rotaract Club of Kampala South, is an Honorary Member in our Club and has a strong partnership not only with our Club but with a number of Rotarians in District 6450 and 6440 based on partnerships on past projects. Derrick is in fact the future of Rotary and we congratulate Derrick on this well-entered honor.
