Statement by United for Assyria
United for Assyria, in cooperation with the Assyrian Democratic Party and with the participation of independent Assyrian activists, organized a protest on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, outside the Federal Building in Chicago, Illinois. The protest was held to express our full solidarity with the Assyrian people in Assyria (northern Iraq) and our opposition to U.S. policies in Iraq—particularly in the north—which have contributed to the continued confiscation of Assyrian lands and property, the political marginalization of Assyrians, and the continued failure to address the violations they face in their homeland.
The protest was organized in response to calls from our people in Assyria and in solidarity with the recent demonstrations in Nohadra (Duhok). It reflects our belief that the Assyrian diaspora has both a national and moral responsibility to stand with our people, amplify their voices before policymakers and the international community, and demand an end to the injustices threatening the continued existence of the Assyrian people in their homeland.
Since its founding, United for Assyria has been dedicated to raising awareness of the Assyrian cause, advocating for the rights of the Assyrian people, building relationships with elected officials and institutions, and organizing initiatives that advance our national cause. This protest is a continuation of that mission—not an isolated event or a one-time demonstration.
United for Assyria affirms that this protest marks the beginning of a new phase of advocacy and public engagement. In the weeks and months ahead, we will continue organizing events, campaigns, and initiatives to keep the Assyrian cause on the agenda of policymakers, strengthen international support for our people, and maintain pressure to end the ongoing attacks on our lands and secure justice for their rightful owners.
We believe that defending Assyria is a shared responsibility. It does not rest solely with those who continue to stand firm in the homeland, but also with Assyrians in the diaspora, who have a duty to ensure that the free Assyrian voice is heard around the world and to use every legitimate means to defend the future of the Assyrian people in their homeland.
Finally, we extend our sincere gratitude to everyone who participated in this protest, as well as to the many friends and supporters whose encouragement and assistance helped make it a success. We reaffirm our commitment that United for Assyria will continue this work with determination and resolve, remaining a strong voice for the Assyrian people until justice is achieved, our rights are secured, and Assyrians are able to live freely and with dignity in Assyria.
Long live Assyria.
