St. Vincent de Paul of St. Barnabas SVDP works to feed, cloth, and provide other services for community members in need. We meet every 1st and 3rd Wednesday in the church hall.

Ministers of Care/Activities for Nursing Home and Homebound
For the previous month, ministers of care had 130 communion and 214 prayer visits to private homes, Belhaven, Avantara, Aliya Crestwood, and Oak Lawn. Resp. Ministers included Bill F., Janice R., Susan, Barbara L. Cathy, John H., John F. Jeanne, Margie L, Margie W., Bill W. Cathy O. and Nancy D.

Bill F., Barb L, Margie W., Margie L. John F. and Susan distribute communion on Wednesdays at 10:00AM at Avantara.

Belhaven- Bill F. and Janice or Susan bring communion and/or pray with residents every Tuesday. Bill F., Janice R., Cathy O, and Susan P. host a monthly Sunday prayer service at 2:00 p.m. for residents. The next one is December 21st and will include caroling, cards and treats.

Oak Lawn Respiratory- Bill F., Bill W., John H., Susan and Nancy continue to visit Ron and Paul S and other residents.

Smith Village- Bill O. and Barb C. will continue to visit residents and Barb plays the piano there on Mondays at 3:00 p.m.

Please contact Susan if you are in need of rosaries for homebound parishioners or nursing home residents.

Dinner/Food Pantry Updates
St. Thomas Moore- The food pantry is on Saturdays from 9:30 to 10:30. Please arrive by 9 am to volunteer. Help is also needed for weekly deliveries. The schedule varies. Currently, Bill W., Tom H., Pat M., Jack L., Joe and other parishioners assist. They serve close to 60 families per week.
St. Gall’s Church-(55th and Kedzie) is on Wednesdays from 11 to 1. Volunteers arrive about 8 am. The schedule may change. About 155 families per week are served. There are five to seven volunteers from St. Vincent that attend.

Beds Plus/Aloha- Mary K, her team, and members of SVdP made and served dinner on the first Sunday of the month. SVdP supplies $100 for food if requested.
Currently Bill W., Tom H., Margie W., and Mike F. assist on Fridays from 8:30 to 10:30 and prepare breakfast for 30 to 50 residents. PLD provided fresh food.

Sandwich Ministry
Pro Labore Dei makes 200-400 sandwiches and snacks at St. Stan’s in Posen every Thursday from 10 to noon. The distribution takes place every Saturday from 10 to noon at St. Stans in Posen, The Community Center in Robbins and St. Thomas Moore. Cathy O, Barb C, Kate W, Barb L, Maureen C and Kathy C are helping. Cathy will begin shopping for $200 per month for Posen.
Sandwiches are also prepared on Saturdays by St. James Parish (1st), Christ the King (2nd), St. Thomas Moore (3rd) and St. Barnabas (4th). Bill, Bob, Larry, Danny, Phil, Jack, and Bob continue to pick up bread and rolls from Lemont Pepperidge Farm Warehouse almost weekly and supply bread and rolls to 7-8 local churches and pantry sites. The next event will be January 24th in the church basement. We also help fund the project with a donation of $500 a month to use toward food and supplies however the cost to our chapter has recently been less than $200 per month. Tim N provides snacks and bread donations from Bimbo.
We also continue to support the ministry of Jeff Kenny through financial donations as well as food donations. Jeff is looking for volunteers on Wednesdays from 7 to 3PM. Kathy H. & Lori S. have been making sandwiches for this ministry.

Christmas Caroling-Friday, December 19th at 6:30 went well!! Possibly change date next year to include children.
Belhaven Christmas - Visited every room! Service in lunchroom. Provided over 200 cards for residents.
Food Baskets (12) - Patty R and Liz C assisted.
Hams were delivered St. Thomas Moore got 50.
Bill delivered over 700 loaves of bread.
St. Mary Magdalen - not operating because of fire in the rectory, but will open next month. Discussion of getting involved and assisting with food distribution.
New Pantry opening and other organization called "Be the Village."
Mention of SVdP assisting Peace and Justice Society.
Discussion of Card Program with Goal of Valentine’s Day. Susan will contact school.
Susan and son brought over food for halfway house.
Discussion of distribution of sandwiches to make the best use of resources.
Fewer calls to the rectory for requests for assistance.
Motion to secure a monthly $500 for food pantries in need. Carried.

Discussion of recent bulletin stories highlighting works of SVDP. Bulletin stories for Thanksgiving second collection will be in 11/16 and 11/23 bulletins. Barbara L is writing story.
Safeguarding Training- Susan gave updates of those who need training and will follow up with Nicole on annual training requirements.
The new fiscal year started October 1st. To facilitate the annual report all members should keep track of volunteer hours and those served. Susan will reach out to Dana for logs.
Susan will contact Molly M about cards and crafts from students for nursing homes and the homebound.
Susan will complete the annual report in November.
Jayne will order any logo shirts that are needed.

Bill, Bob, Larry, Danny, Phil, Jack, and Bob continue to pick up bread and rolls from Lemont Pepperidge Farm Warehouse almost weekly and supply bread and rolls to 7-8 local churches and pantry sites. The next event will be May 24th. Location TBA. We also help fund the project with a donation of $500 a month to use toward food and supplies however the cost to our chapter has recently been less than $200 per month. Tim N provides snacks and bread donations from Bimbo.
We also continue to support the ministry of Jeff Kenny through financial donations as well as food donations. Jeff is looking for volunteers on Wednesdays from 7 to 3PM.

Tom will follow up regarding possible housing assistance.
Susan will reach to out to Barnard Elementary to assess whether we could assist other students. Susan will also reach out to St. Benedict's School St. Mary Magdalene.
Bill F will get confirmation of our Certificate of insurance.
