Production #7 is officially in the books. A Picasso closed on Sunday and marked another Elsinore first: two consecutive best-selling productions to date! Well-reviewed and avidly enjoyed by audiences, the show epitomized our commitment to producing challenging & under-utilized scripts - and one that became even more topical & vital as the production calendar drew on. We are so grateful to new & returning audience members alike for spending their pre-holiday leisure time with a show that could not have been any less Christmas-y!

A Picasso would never have been delivered without our staunch and sterling production team. We thank them one final time for their vision, talent and commitment to the show:

Director: Daniel King
Stage Manager: Carly Zamost
Set Construction: Kieran O'Connor
Light Design: Quinn Chisenhall
Sound Design: Kate Schnetzer
Property Design: Randy Rozler
Costume Design: Marquecia Jordan
Poster Design/Digital Marketing Materials: Joe Jones

The good folks at Greenhouse Theater Center - especially Hannah Loessberg, Jon Yawn and Aurelia Dominguez - were wonderful hosts. We appreciate them making us feel at home over the past month.

It has been a year of challenges and growth for Elsinore: personnel changes, production delays, joining the vibrant world of Chicago storefront theatre and forging new & exciting collaborations. We’ll be back in 2026 and hope you’ll be there with us. Happy holidays, peace & good health to all!

"[Ewing and Rohr] elevate the sparring match between these adversaries with skill. Director Daniel King keeps the production tight and intellectual in the intimate black box...a thoughtful and uncomfortable dive into a conflict that has become way too current." [Angela Allyn, Chicago Stage and Screen]

You have three more chances to join us in the vault (tonight & tomorrow @ 7:30, Sunday @ 2:30). Tickets are going quick - get them now at https://elsinoreensemble.com.

"We're all guilty of something...it's just a matter of finding the appropriate law."

1941. In Occupied Paris, Pablo Picasso is summoned to a storage vault by a N**i “cultural attaché” to confirm the authenticity of three “confiscated” Picasso paintings before they are exhibited. But when he discovers the true purpose of the exhibition, a cat-and-mouse negotiation - with life and death stakes - ensues. Art, politics, s*x, power and truth collide in this fast-paced, witty drama with echoes of our world today. Does Picasso have the power to save his paintings – and himself?

"⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I can’t say enough good things about A Picasso, written by Jeffrey Hatcher, directed by Daniel King and produced by Elsinore Ensemble. This two-hander is a brilliant psychological drama, combining very complicated personal dynamics with a theme that’s urgent...In spite of their differences in politics and morals, Picasso and Miss Fischer actually do understand each other. As both grapple with each other’s viewpoint, they start to see themselves to a greater or lesser extent in each other, which draws them together." - Julia W. Rath , Around The Town Chicago.
