PUBLIC STATEMENT: WYOMING RENTERS DESERVE SAFETY, FAIRNESS, AND ACCOUNTABILITY
Knott Your Average Foundation is publicly documenting concerns involving housing harassment, retaliation, selective enforcement, ignored maintenance, privacy concerns, unauthorized access, and unsafe living conditions affecting Wyoming renters and families.
I am speaking out because silence protects broken systems.
For too long, renters are made to feel like they have no power. They are told to be quiet, wait, tolerate unsafe conditions, accept unfair treatment, or fear retaliation if they complain. Many families do not speak up because they are afraid of losing the place they call home, being targeted, being labeled “difficult,” or not being believed.
That needs to change.
I am currently documenting my own experience as a tenant under Seldin Company’s management, including concerns involving repeated harassment, unequal enforcement, property damage, ignored complaints, maintenance/access issues, privacy concerns, security concerns, and lease violations that I believe have been handled unfairly.
I have reported damage to my household’s property, including concerns involving my daughter’s vehicle, debris and hazards near vehicles, children repeatedly riding bikes and pushing a grocery cart between vehicles, damage to my fence, and ongoing disturbances. I have also reported repeated verbal harassment, including profanity, threats, and alleged racial slurs directed toward my household.
I have serious concerns about unannounced maintenance and contractor activity. I have video footage and ongoing documentation showing contractors and/or maintenance repeatedly coming to my home unannounced, accessing my property, and entering my home without proper notice. Even more concerning, I have documented multiple instances where contractors or maintenance entered or accessed my home while my minor daughter was home alone. This has happened on four separate occasions.
That is a serious safety, privacy, and child-protection concern.
No tenant should have to worry about unknown adults, contractors, maintenance workers, or property agents entering their home without proper notice, especially when a minor child is inside without a parent present.
I have also documented workers being present near my home and windows without proper notice, maintenance activity occurring around the same time my cameras went offline, and later discovering alarming footage that appears to show an unknown person inside my home without permission while my child and I were present.
I have documented concerns involving animal complaints, sanitation issues, dog-related citations, and unequal enforcement. In my experience, complaints I make are minimized or ignored, while complaints made against me are quickly acted on through police calls, citations, or lease violations.
I am preserving everything: photos, videos, screenshots, police information, Animal Control records, maintenance records, notices, emails, camera logs, witness information, inspection history, and written communication.
This is not about refusing to follow rules.
This is about whether rules are being applied fairly.
This is about whether families are safe in their homes.
This is about whether tenants can report problems without retaliation.
This is about whether management companies are held accountable when complaints, maintenance issues, safety concerns, privacy concerns, child-safety concerns, unauthorized access, or harassment are ignored.
Through Knott Your Average Foundation, I am asking other Wyoming renters and families:
Have you experienced something similar?
Have you reported maintenance issues that were ignored?
Have you experienced retaliation after making complaints?
Have you received sudden lease violations after speaking up?
Have you dealt with selective enforcement where rules apply to you but not others?
Have you had unexplained entry, privacy concerns, missing footage, or concerns about access to your home?
Have contractors, maintenance workers, or property agents entered your home without proper notice?
Have they entered while your child or another vulnerable household member was home alone?
Have you reported harassment, threats, racial harassment, property damage, animal issues, or unsafe conditions and felt like nothing was done?
Have you felt afraid to speak up because you worried management would target you?
If so, you are not alone.
There is power in numbers.
One complaint can be dismissed.
One tenant can be ignored.
One family can be made to feel isolated.
But when multiple people document similar patterns, those patterns become harder to deny.
Knott Your Average Foundation is not asking people to spread rumors, attack anyone, or post private information. We are asking renters to document facts, preserve evidence, protect their families, and speak up through proper channels.
If you have experienced similar issues, start documenting:
Date and time.
What happened.
Who was present.
Photos or video.
Messages or emails.
Police or agency report numbers.
Maintenance requests.
Witnesses.
How it affected your household.
What response you received.
Do not rely on memory. Create a timeline. Save the receipts. Request everything in writing.
Safe housing should not depend on who management likes.
Fair treatment should not depend on whether a tenant is afraid to complain.
A family’s home should not become a place of fear, harassment, retaliation, unexplained access, or unanswered questions.
Wyoming renters and families deserve better.
Let’s document it.
Let’s speak up.
Let’s protect families.
Let’s push for accountability.
