While celebrating 20 years of Building a Better Wyoming, each Jonah Banker was asked to choose a local nonprofit that holds personal significance to them. The chosen nonprofit then receives a donation in their honor during their "workiversary" month. SPOILER ALERT - we are SO grateful!!

Where could STEM take you? 🔬💻🌱🚀

The Congressional Award and Ferring Pharmaceuticals invite young people across the country to participate in the “Careers in STEM” Challenge!

Choose a STEM career that makes you curious, then create a video of up to three minutes explaining what the role involves, why it matters, and how someone could pursue it. Your topic can be a career you have dreamed about for years or one you discover while researching the challenge.

Five challenge winners will receive special prizes and be featured on The Congressional Award’s website and in an upcoming newsletter.

Submissions are due September 27, 2026. Learn more, register for The Congressional Award if you have not already, and submit your entry through the Careers in STEM Challenge webpage linked in our bio.

“Earning The Congressional Award is one of my greatest achievements, even more so than my engineering degree.”

You heard it here first, folks, straight from 2023 Wyoming World-Changer Elizabeth—who credits the Award for helping her stand out as she pursued (and found!) a dream job in her field after graduation.

“While other colleagues had done more technical projects, or had more STEM-related experience, my Gold Congressional Award was always noted… and it stood out,” Elizabeth shares. “When recruiters learn the amount of time and dedication that goes into earning a Congressional Award, they tie that work ethic to you being a great candidate for their company.”

Earning The Congressional Award is an experience Elizabeth says she’ll never forget… and never regret.

You could say it’s all thanks to Confucius that James earned his Gold medal.

It was referencing the famed philosopher’s quote—”To move a mountain, you should start by carrying away small stones”—that kept James focused on going for the Gold and finishing out his journey with The Congressional Award.

“Once you get into a rhythm, it's easy to carry the ‘stones’ away and move the mountain in front of you,” James explained.

Stone by stone, James worked his way up to Gold medalist status, earning him a trip to last year’s Gold Medal Summit in Washington, D.C.—an experience he calls “an incredible opportunity.”

For all the hard work it took to earn his Gold medal, James is the first to admit: The “mountain” to get there can be discouraging to face at times.

So, for any fellow or future medalist who thinks going for the Gold is out of reach, James has this advice:

“Doing the Congressional Award never hurts; it only boosts you. The work you do helps your community, makes you fitter and healthier, and makes you a more aware and mature person than others your age — and you get to experience more along the way. Whether you're walking into an interview or applying to college, having a Gold medal under your belt puts you ahead of others who haven't dared to take the step forward.”
