Self American Legion Post 6 is the largest post in the state of Wyoming. Membership is open to active military and Veterans serving since December 7, 1941. The American Legion was founded on four pillars: Veterans Affairs & Rehabilitation, National Security, Americanism, and Children & Youth. Each of these pillars encompasses a variety of programs that benefit our nation’s veterans, its service me

mbers, their families, the youth of America and ordinary citizens. These programs make a difference in hundreds of thousands of lives each year. We are a War-time Veterans Service Organization and if you Honorably Served since 7 December 1941, you are eligible to join The American Legion.

Key Milestones in Wyoming Women's Suffrage
• December 10, 1869: Governor John Campbell signed the woman suffrage bill passed by the Wyoming Legislature.
• September 6, 1870: Louisa Swain of Laramie became the first woman in the United States to cast a ballot in a general election under equal law. Black women also voted in this election, though Native American women faced federal citizenship hurdles until later decades.
• July 10, 1890: Wyoming entered the Union as the first U.S. state with a constitution guaranteeing equal voting rights for women, famously declaring they would stay out of statehood rather than drop women's suffrage.
• 1892: Wyoming women voted in their first presidential election, serving as the sole state with women voters at that time.
• 1924: Nellie Tayloe Ross was elected as the first female governor in United States history, taking office in Wyoming.
