We want to give a big thumbs up to Dr. Sandra Gebhart and the surgical team at Memorial Hospital of Converse County in Douglas. They performed a history making thumb carpometacarpal implant arthroplasty. It was the first one ever done at the hospital and will help patients with arthritis in their thumbs.

We want to congratulate Dr. Sandra Gebhart and her MHCC surgical crew as they recently performed MHCC's very first thumb carpometacarpal implant arthroplasty. This surgery is also among the first few ever performed in Wyoming.

This procedure is being done on those suffering from severe basal thumb arthritis, a type of osteoarthritis in which cartilage degeneration in the thumb causes the metacarpal bone to slip out of joint with the wrist. This type of thumb arthritis is very common as we get older, especially in women aged 40 to 50. It can make everyday tasks like twisting a jar lid, turning a key or gripping a phone painful and difficult.

Historically, treating advanced cases involved surgically removing a bone from the hand, which often required a long recovery. This new technology acts like a miniature total hip replacement for the thumb; a small prosthetic device is embedded into the bone ends to mimic natural joint movement. It requires no bone removal.

This provides multiple benefits to patients: better stability, significantly improved pain management and a much faster return of motion, pinch and grip strength.

Want to learn more? Please contact Thunder Basin Orthopaedics at MHCC to schedule an appointment and see if this procedure could work for you!

They were hoping for $50,000 but shot right past that goal. The Johnson County Healthcare Foundation raised an amazing $63,826 during their very first WYOGives campaign last month. The money will benefit residents of the Amie Holt Care Center in Buffalo. The community’s generosity shows what “For Buffalo From Buffalo” really means.

💙 Thank you, Johnson County.

Because of the incredible generosity of our community, our very first WYO Gives campaign became something truly special.

Together, you helped the Johnson County Healthcare Center Foundation raise $63,826—128% of our $50,000 goal!

Not only did we exceed our goal, but your generosity helped us finish:
🏆 12th out of 515 nonprofits statewide
🏥 The top healthcare fundraiser in Wyoming

Every gift—whether it was $1 or $15,000—will help strengthen care and enhance the lives of the residents at Amie Holt Care Center.

Today, we'd like to recognize the individuals, families, businesses, organizations, and community partners whose extraordinary generosity helped make this historic campaign possible. While we've highlighted our major giving circles, we're equally grateful for every donor, every volunteer, every share, every encouraging word, and every person who helped make this day a success.

From all of us at the Johnson County Healthcare Center Foundation...

Thank you for showing what "For Buffalo. From Buffalo." truly means. ❤️
