" Laramie County and Cheyenne are already low on housing, and without workforce housing, workers would have nowhere to go, and rent prices would likely go up due to the demand.

“Many of our local workforce have had to travel until these projects have come into town,” Kindred said. “And now they are sleeping in their own beds at night, and going to their kids’ recitals, rehearsals; living here, and spending their money here and investing in our communities" '

CHEYENNE — Members of the Laramie County Planning Commission voted unanimously to recommend approval of a Class C Conditional Use Permit application for an 800-unit temporary workforce housing development.

"Our workers have been the one traveling to other states, where the jobs are, spending weeks away from family. These projects have made it possible for our local hires to stay here, to coach Little League, to not miss out on recitals, to sleep in their own beds at night," explains Marcie Kindred, Executive Director for Wyoming's AFL-CIO.

Kindred, however, explains that while the AFL-CIO supports economic development, it shouldn't happen at, quote, "just any cost," as she states, in part, "we need to be asking the right questions. Are the ratepayers protected? Is the environment protected? If all of these things are considered and answered and transparent, then yes, these projects mean high paying jobs."

Cheyenne, Wyo. - Discussions on seven topics took place here at the historic courthouse by Laramie County's Planning Commission, but many residents were in attendance because of the last item

We’ve been a little busy today — organizing, rallying in Casper, fighting for Wyoming workers. You know, the usual.

But we couldn’t let May Day go by without saying this:

Some people say we already won. That unions had their moment but working people are fine now.

Tell that to the Wyoming worker whose paycheck isn’t keeping up with groceries. Or rent. Or gas.

We work harder every year. The billionaires get richer every year. That’s not an accident — it’s a strategy. And the strategy only works if we stay divided.

We refuse.

May Day was born in America, fought for by workers who bled for the 8-hour day and the weekend. That fight isn’t history. It’s happening right now — in our legislature, in our communities, in our state.

We keep fighting. đź’Ş

Tuesday is Workers Memorial Day — and this year, we’re holding the line.

Join us Tuesday, April 28 at 5:30 PM on the Wyoming State Capitol Steps for our annual ceremony, co-hosted with the Wyoming Trial Lawyers Association. We’ll honor the 37 Wyoming workers killed on the job in 2024, and remember Alex “Tuff” Harsha, lost in 2025 — including a moving tribute from his aunt, Jessica Isaacson, and a closing song dedicated to his daughter Paisley.

For over two decades, Wyoming has consistently ranked among the worst states in the nation for workplace fatalities. These are our neighbors, our family members, our fellow Wyomingites. Come stand with us.

Every year, we gather to remember Wyoming workers who didn't make it home.

Join the Wyoming State AFL-CIO and Wyoming Trial Lawyers Association for our Annual Workers Memorial Day Ceremony on Tuesday, April 28th at 5:30 PM on the Capitol Steps in Cheyenne.

This year, we are honored to be joined by a Wyoming family who lost a loved one to a workplace accident in 2025. We will hear from guest speakers, observe a bell ceremony, and come together in prayer to honor those we've lost and recommit to the fight for safe workplaces.

For more than 20 years, Wyoming has consistently ranked among the worst states in the nation for workplace fatalities. This day is our reminder of what's at stake — and who we're fighting for.

Please RSVP at the link in the Workers Memorial Day Ceremony Facebook event to help us plan.

In the event of inclement weather, the ceremony will be held in the Capitol Rotunda.

"Stewardship isn't politics, it's personal."

Our Wyoming brother Marshal Cummings knows we all share the responsibility to protect public lands in our state. Whether underground in the mine or out in our communities, you can count on our Wyo Union to put in the work to protect what's ours — for workers, for wildlife, and for the generations coming up behind us.

Thank you, Marshal, for bringing Wyoming's voice to this film. 🏔️

Last-minute venue change couldn’t stop us. Wyoming workers showed up, raised over $600 for Saint Joseph’s Food Bank, and collected a truckload of supplies for the Cheyenne Animal Shelter.

Thanks to our judges—Retired Army Col. Brian Harmsen, Mayor Patrick Collins, Commissioner Gunnar Malm, and Rep. Lee Filer—for lending their time and taste buds to a great cause.

But the biggest win? Our community showing up for each other. We proved that when Wyoming workers come together, we all rise. Solidarity isn’t just a word—it’s how we live.

Next year’s competition just got a whole lot spicier. Start perfecting those recipes now because we’re coming for those titles. 🔥

Congrats to our chili champions! You brought the heat today and earned those bragging rights. 🌶️
