Exciting News— We're Heading Back to Vietnam in June 2025!

Dear Friends and Supporters,

Time flies, and we’re filled with gratitude as we prepare to return to northern Vietnam from May 30 to June 8, 2025, for another life-changing mission.

This year marks our seventh year doing this work—an ongoing journey of compassion, healing, and hope. Our mission brings together two deeply meaningful efforts: delivering essential humanitarian aid and providing life-changing surgeries to children in some of Vietnam’s most underserved communities.

This mission holds a special place in our hearts—not only because of the children and families we serve, but also because we carry the spirit and memory of two beloved teammates and surgeons we’ve lost in recent years. While their absence is deeply felt, their passion and compassion continue to guide our work. Though our hearts are heavier, our mission remains strong.

This past March, our team visited a remote pre-school in commune Nam Co, district Mu Cang Chai, province Yen Bai, where we met with dedicated local teachers and 71 young Hmong students, ages 3 to 5 years old. It is a boarding school for children who are either orphaned or come from families unable to care for them. The children live and learn in incredibly challenging conditions — no electricity, no internet, and limited clean water during the drought season. In the winter, temperatures drop below 32°F.

To reach the school, our team rode scooters along an 11-mile dirt road — muddy and treacherous in March due to the monsoon season. But when we arrived, we were welcomed with warmth and gratitude. The teachers shared their hopes and dreams for the children, and we left knowing we had to do more.

That’s why this school is now part of our June 2025 mission. In addition to providing life-changing surgeries for children in need, we will also bring blankets, warm clothing, solar panels, toys, and school supplies to support the pre-school and help create a more sustainable environment for learning and living.

And we’re not stopping there — in August 2025, we’re planning another surgical mission to Tuyen Quang province. Our volunteers, doctors from Hanoi, and surgeons from California are all making time in their busy lives to come together for this shared purpose: helping children live healthier, brighter lives.

Here's How You Can Help:
Volunteer: Want to join us or get involved? We’d love to hear from you. There are many ways to support — both on the ground and from afar.
Donate:
• Each surgery costs $249 per child, and we plan to provide surgery for 20 children this June.
• $2927.40 will cover blankets, warm clothes, solar panels, toys, and school supplies for the children at the Nam Co boarding school. Below is a breakdown of the costs for the supplies:

Warm Blankets $6.00 x 71 = $426.00
Winter Jackets (children-sized) $12.00 x 71 = $852.00
Basic Solar Panel Kit (small school) $600.00 1 set
Toys (blocks, puzzles, balls, etc.) $5.00 x 71 = $355.00
School Supplies (books, pencils, paper, etc.) $5.00 x 71 = $355.00
Transportation & Delivery Costs - - $200.00
Contingency (5%) - - $139.40

Total Estimated Budget $2,927.40

Every donation — whether it’s monthly, annual, or one-time — goes directly toward helping these children thrive. Your support brings warmth, healing, and hope where it’s needed most.

From all of us, thank you for believing in our mission and being a part of our journey.

With love and gratitude,

Vanloan Nguyen
President

**Warm Roof Orphanage, Hanoi, Vietnam. October 2024**

- A cool autumn day.
- As planned, we return to the Sacred Heart Orphanage in Xuy Xa, Ha Tay.
- 7 years—a journey during which our charity has been lucky enough to become a part of the children's lives.
- Monthly visits have made the children and the orphanage feel familiar, close, and connected.
- Still, the children's innocent eyes, their bright smiles, the joyful shouts of welcome, tight hugs, and affectionate kisses... and then, there are the occasional moments of sadness, the tears... The yard, the corners of the house, the small garden—all these are beloved places where our group has witnessed the children grow, mature day by day, and even the disabled children age over time.
- Today, there are pizzas, not piping hot but still delicious, brought to the orphanage...
- ...A cake and gifts to celebrate the birthdays of the nuns and children in October.
- ...There’s milk, which we received with the support of Nutricare Company for the children.
- ...There are vitamins and clothes sent from afar by our donors for the children.
- ...There are preserved pork, sausage, food, spices, fish sauce, salt, essential goods, and other necessities, all of which were contributed by our donors.
- ...And notebooks with grid paper for the children's schoolwork.

- All of these are gestures of love, sent by the mothers, aunts, and uncles to the orphanage, with the hope of contributing to a better life for the children!
- ❤️ Sincere thanks and deep appreciation for all these beautiful acts!

- P.S.: Next month, we will bring the shoes that donors sent for the children.

As Typhoon Yagi continues to impact northern Vietnam, our team has been hard at work. We gathered supplies, loaded them onto vans and trucks, and transported essential goods to the regions most affected. Thanks to these efforts, children are being kept safe from the storm, and their parents no longer need to worry about tomorrow, knowing that help is at hand. Below is a series of pictures from Lao Cai, showing the work on the ground. The total value of goods contributed to the disaster relief effort amounted to $4064.49.

We are grateful for the opportunity to assist in this time of need, and this wouldn't have been possible without your support. Thank you so much for making a difference!

On behalf of the orphanage and the children, we want to express our heartfelt thanks to:

🥰 Successful Medical Outreach in Hà Giang Province, Vietnam.

🎉 We are thrilled to share that from June 4-7, 2024, Hmong Crippled Children Charity, in collaboration with VietCal, the Vietnam Orthopaedic Association, Hà Giang Department of Health, and Hà Giang General Hospital, conducted a highly successful humanitarian program in Hà Giang Province.

🎉 During this period, our team provided medical consultations and diagnoses for 91 patients and performed life-changing surgeries for 26 patients, including 10 children. We offered support, encouragement, and financial aid for surgical expenses to disadvantaged children and patients suffering from orthopedic conditions, trauma sequelae, and movement disabilities.

🎉 In addition, we visited Khâu Bủng village school in Quyết Tiến commune, Quản Bạ district, where we donated scholarships, gifts, warm clothing, shoes, and educational supplies. The total value of these donations was 110 million VND, or $4,321.35 benefiting both students and teachers.

🎉 A special thank you to all those who continue to support our cause, to the doctors from the Vietcal Organization from SoCal for their dedication and expertise, and the Sala Club, a humanitarian organization based in Hanoi, Vietnam.

🎉 We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the Hà Giang Department of Health, the leadership and staff of Hà Giang General Hospital, and the Orthopedic, Surgery, and Anesthesia departments for their invaluable collaboration and support. Together, we have brought significant positive changes to the lives of many.

😍 Your support means the world to us and helps us create positive change. Thank you so much!

🥰 Alongside the main activities of the surgical program in Hà Giang, our team visited and presented gifts to Khâu Bủng School, one of the seven branches of Quyết Tiến Primary School, located in Quyết Tiến commune, Quản Bạ district. We donated five 65" smart TVs to five classrooms to support online teaching and learning, 200 winter jackets, 100 pairs of sandals, and various school supplies such as notebooks, drawing pens, adult clothing, and candy. Notably, we awarded 20 "Ngô Văn Toàn Scholarships" 1 million VND, (or $39.34 each), to disadvantaged students who have overcome difficulties. The total value of gifts and scholarships amounted to 110 million VND (or $4326.85).

🥰 Khâu Bủng School is situated in Khâu Bủng hamlet and is home to two ethnic minorities: the Hmong and the Dao. The hamlet consists of 91 households with a population of 467, including 76 Hmong households and 15 Dao households; there are 42 households living in poverty and 41 households living on the threshold of the poverty line. The majority of the population has traditionally relied on agriculture, farming, and livestock for their livelihood. The economic, political, security, and social conditions are all stable. The school has a total of 91 students, including 81 Hmong students and 10 Dao students, divided into five classes (from grade 1 to grade 5) with six teachers.

🥰 Despite the rainy day, the teachers were thrilled to receive our donations, and the students welcomed us with song and dance.

🥰 Among all our donations, I bet the students enjoyed the candies the most! 😊

The ceremony featured our team members donating school equipment to the school's principal. Additionally, many children received the “Ngo Van Toan” scholarships, named after a beloved surgeon and philanthropist.

Most of these students who attend this boarding school have parents who struggle to afford the tuition and meal fees. In some cases, one or both parents are deceased. These scholarships will significantly help them remain in school and concentrate on their studies.

Today, we made the journey to the orphanage in Xuy Xa, Vietnam, a 1.5-hour drive from Hanoi. The trip was rewarding as upon arrival, the children greeted us with a delightful dance performance, showcasing impressive choreography. Their adorable, beaming faces filled us with love and joy.

While we were visiting the orphanage, a girl with Down syndrome clung to my friend and me, sobbing inconsolably. She seemed to need extra comfort today. I spent a good two minutes hugging her tightly, and eventually, she joyfully planted several kisses on my cheek. That moment alone made the long journey across the Pacific Ocean worthwhile.
