HRMP NEWS
Donna Jackson-Wright, a lifelong resident of Roger Mills County and a 1989 Reydon High School graduate, has been appointed Curator for the Historic Roger Mills Preservation and Development Foundation (HRMP).
Along with President Jerry Swartwood, Jackson-Wright has significantly contributed to the remodeling of the museums in Cheyenne City Park over the past year.
Jackson-Wright brings a wealth of experience and expertise to her new role. She holds two Bachelor of Arts degrees in History and Art Education from Southwestern Oklahoma State University and a Master of Arts Education from Southeastern Oklahoma State University, with an emphasis on technology in the classroom.
She has dedicated 23 years to teaching Art and History at Cheyenne Public Schools, and also has experience teaching in Borger, TX, and Gruver, TX. Additionally, she has been an active instructor at the Metcalfe Museum art camp for 11 years and has directed the Cheyenne High School One-Act Play, leading her cast to two state appearances.
Her family has deep roots in the area; her grandparents, Jessie and Carrie Jackson, homesteaded south of Reydon around 1900, and her mother's parents homesteaded northwest of Leedey. Donna is one of three children, with brothers David, Brett Jackson and sister Melanie. She is married to Jim Wright, who currently serves as the Undersheriff of Roger Mills County. They have three children: Wiley, Emily, and Jesse.
In her first year as Curator, Jackson-Wright has already researched and updated several museum displays, including a new mural depicting the history of the Roger Mills County Courthouses and the land run. She and Jerry Swartwood have also updated the Town of Cheyenne and Roger Mills County displays.
The Foundation expresses gratitude for the community's ongoing support in preserving the history of Roger Mills County, and extends special thanks to all individuals who have contributed to the preservation of the county's rich heritage. The generosity of donors directly supports the seven museums in Cheyenne City Park, ensuring their continued operation and enhancement.
