38 years ago this month, a major NSFNET upgrade went online, making the internet nearly 30 times faster than the original network! Have you visited the Visitor Center at the NSF NCAR-Wyoming Supercomputing Center? Our networking display highlights NCAR's pivotal role in internet history as an original NSFNET supercomputing center. NSFNET became the U.S. Internet backbone, growing from 2,000 computers in 1986 to over 2 million by 1993! Our visitor center is open to the general public Monday - Friday, 9:00 am - 5:00 pm
