The Great Village Project

As we close nominations we wanted to say THANK YOU!
We started this project as 2 thankful moms wanting to do more for those wonderful teachers that are so willing to love and teach the best part of us, our kids! We hope that each one of the teachers felt the appreciation and gratitude we as a great village have for you. We know there are a lot of teachers that do great things in our community. We see you, we love you and are thankful for you ❤
To our sponsors thank you so much for being willing to help us with our goal. This project would not had been possible without your help. A big thank you to all the parents that nominated teachers. We did it! We survived 9 weeks of remote learning!!

MRS KATHLEEN MCKINLEY!!

Mrs McKinley is a 7th & 8th grade math teacher at McCormick Junior High.

When we asked Mrs. McKinley why she loves teaching she answered:
I love love love teaching. I get to spend my days with kids who are experiencing life in so many new ways. It's fascinating to see them learn and grow and work so hard to figure it all out. And to be a part of helping them on their path is something special.


In her nomination the parent wrote:
Mrs McKinley is such a dedicated teacher. She has been holding zoom meetings with her students throughout and today was their final meeting. She is also retiring this year. She shared inspiring poems and asked them to invite her to their graduations. She also told them that she loves them. It was very sweet. This is a bitter sweet way to end your teaching career.

MRS MICHELLE WADDELL!!

Mrs Waddell is a 4th grade teacher at Prairie Wind Elementary.

When we asked Mrs. Waddell why she loves teaching she answered: I love being a teacher because every single day I get to be with people I adore, my students. They add so much to my life! I look forward to seeing them every day, so being away from them these last 9 weeks has been very difficult. I also love my job because have amazing colleagues at Prairie Wind who share my passion for influencing young lives. I can’t imagine a job I love more or a job that’s more fun!

In her nomination the parent wrote: You can see Mrs Waddell love for her students in everything she does. Zoom meetings, fun parties in the classroom she always goes the extra mile for the kids. She is a fun teacher that celebrates all the craziness that comes with having 20+ 10 year olds in a classroom. We miss her deeply. No one deserves this more than her!!

MRS AIMEE STEIL!!

Mrs Steil is a 2nd grade teacher at Hobbs Elementary.

When we asked Mrs. Steil why she loves teaching she answered:
The reasons I love to teach are numerous. However, the top three would be as follows:
1. Each year I am blessed to work with 55-65 second graders. I consider it a gift to be a part of the educational journey of each class. I look forward to watching the academic, emotional, social, and behavioral growth of each student. Each time a student demonstrates grit and a growth mindset in their journey is a celebration!
2. To be a part of a collaborative team of staff, parents, students, and community members is amazing. Every single person has a goal of supporting our students and I feel very privileged to be a part of this collaborative team.
3. Even though I am only a small part of each student’s journey, I continue to support each student as they move along their path in life. In this profession I am able to coach, be the Student Council advisor, and stay involved in the lives of my students even when they are no longer in my class. I look forward to high school graduation each year as this is a launch pad for students to soar and I love to watch my former students fly!

Mrs Lobatos is the Building Interventionist for Prairie Wind Elementary

When we asked Mrs. Lobatos why she loves teaching she answered: I love being a teacher because I get to spend my days watching kids grow and learn. I get to see the goodness in world. Their curiosity is inspiring. I also love serving families and value the connections we have within our community. I get to work with amazing people who inspire me to be better each day…. And, it’s just FUN!

In his nomination the parent wrote: Mrs Lobatos has a special kind of love for the kids! She celebrates their wins, she helps them with their struggles and loves them like they are her own. Her face lights up when she interacts with her students. She is patient, loving, and the most wonderful teacher, coach and friend. We love her very much.
