The pipeline of talent into the CPA profession is getting stronger, thanks to the incredible work of so many across our community! CPAs, state societies, the AICPA, state boards of accountancy, and NASBA have proven that when we work together, we can win.
Michael Decker, Vice President of Examinations at the American Institute of CPAs, shared some exciting stats that show our collective efforts are paying off:
- Undergraduate accounting enrollment is up for the third year in a row!
- Unique CPA Exam candidates are at their highest level since 2017!
- CPA Exam passers are at the highest rate in nearly a decade!
Significantly fewer candidates are dropping out after passing a few parts. Extending the exam completion window from 18 to 30 months—led by state societies and state boards—no doubt played a major role.
We’ve said for years that strengthening the talent pipeline would require action from every angle—and that’s exactly what happened.
CPAs went into classrooms to show students the real-world impact of the profession.
- Educators helped guide career choices.
- Employers raised starting salaries.
- State societies and boards expanded access through legislative change.
The AICPA convened the National Pipeline Advisory Group to align stakeholders.
We are changing the image of the CPA.
To everyone who cared enough to get involved—it worked.
To those who pushed the profession to adapt faster—thank you. Better answers always come from making space for diverse perspectives, and that’s exactly what happened here.
The profession is on the verge of facing new and equally important challenges, technology, regulation, relevance, trust. But right now, let’s take a moment to celebrate this win. Then let’s get back to work—because no single organization or perspective can solve what’s ahead on its own.
